WolfPack Softball Drops Two N4C Games to DuPage

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 After a 12 day hiatus the Madison College softball team returned to action at home on April 20, and the host team showed their rust. In two hard-fought games, the Madison College softball team lost to the College of DuPage Chaparrals 4-5 and 5-7 after holding leads at one time in each game.

In game one, a thrilling extra-innings affair, Madison held a 4-3 lead after six innings before DuPage knotted up the game 4 to 4 with a solo run in the seventh. The WolfPack couldn't get on the board in the bottom half of the frame and extras were played. Both teams were shutout in the eighth and DuPage score one run in the ninth for the lead, and Madison couldn't counter.
 
The WolfPack only registered six hits in the game, and three of them were for extra bases. Marissa Shaner, Megan Hanke, and Jordan Bell all had doubles, and Bell led the team with two hits in four at bats. She also scored a run and recorded three RBI in the loss.
 
Though here team couldn't help her pick up the victory, Samantha Schuchardt pitched a solid game on the mound. In nine innings, Schuchardt did allow 14 hits, but she limited DuPage to five runs. She struck out two as she fell two 4-8 on the year over 53 innings of work on the mound.
 
In the second game of the day, the WolfPack held a comfortable 5-2 lead after six innings, but the lead wasn't safe. Starting pitcher Paige Webber, who pitched great up to that point, ran into trouble and was replaced by Marissa Shaner. One of the WolfPack's most consistent pitchers, Shaner couldn't get out of the inning without giving up the lead after DuPage nickeled and dimed her with seeing-eye singles coupled with a few WolfPack physical and mental errors, and DuPage recorded the 7-5 win.
 
The Madison College offense belted out 10 hits in support of Weber and four WolfPack players recorded two hits apiece. Andrea Lawrence, Jordan bell, Marissa Shaner, and Madison Milsap all had two hits, and Shaner added the team's lone extra base hit with her double. She also recorded three of the 'Packs five RBI.

Starter Paige Weber's day started off great even though she gave up 10 hits in six innings of work. She also walked one and only allowed three extra base hits before being replaced by Shaner. Shaner was saddled with the loss after one inning of work.
