WolfPack Baseball Sweeps Golden Eagles, 6-0, 2-1

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The 13th ranked Madison College baseball team extended their winning streak to six games after defeating the Rock Valley College Golden Eagles at Robin Roberts Field on April 20 by the scores of 6-0 and 2-1 in a N4C conference doubleheader. The two wins give the 'Pack a 7-1 record in N4C play and a 19-6 overall record.
 
In game one, Madison first scored a solo run in the second inning, before blowing up for four runs in the bottom half of the third. The team then tacked on one more insurance run in the fifth inning in support of starter Cody Peterson, who hurled arguably is best game of the year.  Peterson scattered three hits and one walk over seven innings for the complete game, shutout win.  Peterson also struck out nine as he recorded his second shutout of the year to drop his season ERA to 2.74 and his WHIP to 1.27.

Dan Schmidt led the team on offense as he want 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Dylan Detert, who finished the day 3-for-3, drove in a team leading three runs. The duo combined for six out of the team's 13 hits, and surprisingly all of them were singles. Nathan Pollock also recorded multi hits as he ended the day 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Game two between the two squads was a total pitcher's duel as the two teams were tied 1-1 after the second inning and the game remained tied until the bottom of the seventh . Danny Krause started off the inning by being hit, then was sacrificed over by Rex Morrow. The next two batters (Greg Rhude and Ryan McShane) were intentionally walked and the bases were full of WolfPack. Joe Stubbe then stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and very patiently and anti-climatically walked, forcing in the winning run. The walk-off 2-1 win concluded Madison's dominance of the Golden Eagles as the team was limited to eight hits in 14 innings.

Madison offense was kept relatively in-check in the second game as they only recorded two hits, but the team recorded six free passes. McShane's double was the only extra basehit of the game, and Rex Morrow accounted for the other WolfPack hit.

Starter Nathan Hoffman scattered five Golden Eagle hits over seven solid innings and only gave up one run in the game. His no walk complete game improved his record to 3-0 on the year, and his ERA improved to .85 and he now leads the team with a .97 WHIP.
