Box Score 2 The WolfPack baseball team extended their winning streak to four games by defeating the Carl Sandburg College Chargers on April 14 in Madison with an 8-6 win in game one followed by a 11-9 win in the nightcap.
With the WolfPack ahead 3-2 after two innings in game one, Carl Sandburg took the lead over the 'Pack by scoring four runs in the third to give the visiting Chargers the 6-3 lead. Madison College wasn't going to give up as they scored three runs in the bottom half of the third, one in the fourth, and one in the fifth before holding off the Chargers and finishing the game on top with the 8-6 win.
Nathan Pollock was the only Madison College player to record multiple hits as he recorded three, including a double. He also added a team leading three RBI and a run scored in his 3-for-3 day. Other than Pollock;
Rex Morrow,
Taylor Carlson, and
Evan Richarz added doubles, while
Dylan Detert kept up the extra base hit parade with a triple. Both
Ryan McShane and
Rex Morrow scored twice for the WolfPack.
The WolfPack used three pitchers in the win and
Shane Adler got the start and pitched two and two third innings while allowing six runs (4 earned). Adler was relieved by winning pitcher
Mac Wichmann, who tossed three and one third innings of effective two-hit and no-run relief.
Cody Peterson then took over for Wichmann and closed the door on the Chargers by throwing a perfect seventh inning with two strike outs that was good enough for his first save of the season.
Game two saw more come from behind baseball for the WolfPack as the team was down 5-1 after two innings, before putting up four runs in the third to tie the game at five. The fourth inning was a wash as both teams scored twice, Carl Sandburg scored a run in the fifth for the brief lead, then the WolfPack exploded for four runs in the sixth inning for the 11-8 advantage. The Chargers wouldn't go away easy as they plated one more run in the final frame, but the damage wasn't enough and the 'Pack won 11-9.
Nathan Pollock and
David Luciani both led the team with three hits, and the trio of
Taylor Carlson,
Luke Syens, and
Evan Richarz all recorded two hits in the 16 hit WolfPack offensive barrage. On the extra base hit side,
Evan Richarz doubled twice,
Dan Schmidt doubled once, and
Luke Syens doubled once, but that wasn't it for the extra base hits.
Ryan McShane tripled in his lone at bat,
Luke Syens homored, and
Taylor Carlson swung for the fences and connected twice for two home runs. Carlson also paced the team with five RBI, and five members of the 'Pack scored twice.
Zach Ransom started for the 'Pack and threw three and one third innings allowing nine hits and six runs (5 earned), while striking out two. He was relieved by
Calen Rohrman who tossed the next two and two third innings for the win.
Jameson Sadowske picked up his second save of the year after pitching the seventh inning for Madison.
The 16-6 WolfPack next takes on the University of Wisconsin Club Team on Tuesday, April 16. The nine-inning game at Robin Roberts Field in Madison starts at 5:00 PM.
