Box Score 2 The Madison College Softball team split the final doubleheader of the Florida spring trip. The WolfPack lost 9-5 to Elgin Community College and beat SUNY-Purchase 12-2 to finish their spring trip with a 5-5 record.
In the first game, the WolfPack fell behind from the start as Elgin scored four runs in the first inning. Madison College trailed 5-3 heading into the fourth inning before the Spartans put together back-to-back two-run innings in the fourth and fifth. The WolfPack then scored two runs in the fifth but could not catch Elgin, falling 9-5.
The WolfPack had three batters with two hits including
Andrea Lawrence,
Jordan Bell and
Hailey Hovland. Lawrence and Bell each went 2-for-4 while Bell had two RBIs and a home run.
Megan Hanke also posted two RBIs while
Hailey Hovland went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Megan Hanke hit a two-run homerun in the top of the second.
Samantha Schuchardt pitched a complete game giving up seven earned runs on twelve hits. Schuchardt and the WolfPack earned a loss.
In the second game, the WolfPack jumped on SUNY-Purchase in the first inning to the tune of six runs on five hits. Madison College added another run in the third inning before SUNY-Purchase scored two in the bottom of the fifth. Madison College scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to finish off SUNY-Purchase and end the game by run rule, 12-2.
The WolfPack posted 16 hits including six batters with two or more hits.
Jordan Bell and
Julie Austin led the WolfPack with three hits each. Bell was 3-for-3 with an RBI and Austin was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Jodee Taylor had a 3 RBI day as she went 2-for-4 with a double.
Megan Hanke and
Marissa Shaner each had two RBIs to go with their 2-for-3 efforts.
Michelle Farino led off for the WolfPack and went 2-for-3 as well.
Marissa Shaner earned the win by pitching four innings, striking out five and not allowing a run and only one hit.
Paige Weber pitched in relief, striking out two, walking three and surrendering two earned runs on three htis.
The WolfPack finished their 2013 spring trip with a 5-5 overall record.
