Madison College Baseball Earns Split with Southeast Community College

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Madison College Baseball earned their second straight 4-3 win over an opponent and then fell 4-3 in the second game of the doubleheader against Southeast Community College on Monday in Auburndale, FL.

Madison College won their second straight game by the score of 4-3 in their Monday doubleheader against Southeast Community College from Nebraska.  The WolfPack beat Elgin Community College 4-3 in extra innings on Saturday and this time around they also went into extra innings to claim another 4-3 victory.

With the game tied 2-2 after nine innings, Madison College scored a run in the top of the tenth inning but Southeast Community College answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning.  In the top of the eleventh inning, second year infielder Taylor Carlson singled to centerfield, driving in Bryce Barsness for the game winning run.  Jameson Sadowske came in to shut down the Storm in the eleventh and earn the save.

Zach Ransom started the game for the WolfPack and pitched nine innings, striking out two, walking one and giving up just one earned run on seven hits.  Mac Wichmann pitched in relief, going an inning and a third, giving up just one hit and claiming the win.

The WolfPack had eight hits on the game including two hits each by Dan Schmidt and Taylor CarlsonDan Schmidt and Bryce Barsness each had a triple as the WolfPack improved their overall record to 3-2.

The second game of the doubleheader remained scoreless until the sixth inning when Southeast Community College scored four runs on three hits and two errors.  In the bottom of the seventh the WolfPack made a push, scoring three runs.  In the end they fell short, losing 4-3.

Rex Morrow was the only WolfPack batter with multiple hits as he went 2-for-2 on the game.  First year righthander, Corey Fischer, started for the WolfPack and received the loss despite striking out five, giving up just four hits and no earned runs over six innings of work. Hayden Hughey pitched one inning in relief, walking one.

The WolfPack fell to 3-3 overall and 2-2 on the Florida spring trip. Next up for Madison College Baseball is another matchup with Elgin Community College in Auburndale, FL on Tuesday.
