Madison College Softball Splits Again in Claremont

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 For the second straight doubleheader Madison College earned the split with a convincing 11-2 win over McHenry County College and a 11-14 loss to Ancilla College from Indiana.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the WolfPack defeated, NJCAA Division II, McHenry County College, 11-2, in five innings due to an eight run rule after five innings.  The WolfPack jumped all over the Scots as they posted 10 runs in the first three innings before the Scots scored a run.  The Scots added a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings and the WolfPack added one run in the fifth to win 11-2.

All in all, the WolfPack had 18 hits led by a 3-for-3 outing by Andrea Lawrence.  Lawrence added one RBI as well.  Jordan Bell posted four RBIs as she went 2-for-3 with a double.  Michelle Farino recorded three hits leading off for the WolfPack and three other players had two hits each including Megan Hanke, Marissa Shaner and Madison Milsap.

Former Janesville Craig student-athlete, Paige Weber, started the game, pitching three innings, striking out two, walking two and surrendering just one hit. Samantha Schuchardt pitched in relief, going two innings, striking out one, walking one and giving up two earned runs.  Schuchardt also earned the win and her WolfPack improved to 2-1.

In the second game, Madison College faced Ancilla College from Donaldson, Indiana. Madison College found themselves in a rut early as the Chargers outscored the WolfPack 7-2 in the first three innings.  The WolfPack pulled to within three runs in the fourth inning.  Ancilla answered with a run in the top of the fifth inning and the WolfPack scored a run in the bottom of the sixth before a crazy seventh inning.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Chargers scored six runs on seven hits to extend their lead to 14- 5 but in the bottom of the seventh inning the WolfPack did not go away quietly. 

To start the seventh inning, Megan Hanke drove in a run and McKenzie Endres drove in two  with a double to left to pull the game to within six runs. Then, Jodee Taylor hit a sacrifice fly to score Endres and with two outs the WolfPack continued to put pressure on the Chargers.  The WolfPack scored two more runs to narrow the gap to 14-11 before the final out. With the loss, the WolfPack fell to 2-2 on the spring trip.

The WolfPack will be in action next against Prairie State College on Sunday, March 24 in Titusville, FL.
