WolfPack women dominate Lake County from opening tap

Box Score In what was their most complete game so far this season, the Madison College women's basketball team stormed out to a strong start against the College of Lake County Lancers and never looked back, winning 86-64 Friday evening. The WolfPack poured in 52 points in the opening half, taking a 21 point lead into the break.

"We talk about, first five minutes of a game, let's set a tone, and we most certainly did," said Madison College head coach Jessica Pelzel.

Meagan Mazur stole the show for the 'Pack. The freshman finished with 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field, along with adding seven steals defensively.

"Our fast tempo really helped me, in scoring, and obviously like everyone else too" said Mazur.

Collectively, Madison College spread the ball around very nicely, finishing with 20 assists for the game. The total team effort resulted in Gabrielle Hood and Sara Vande Wetering each adding 13 points for the WolfPack.

One area coach Pelzel would like to see improvement is at the free throw line. Madison College made just 16 of their 30 attempts from the charity stripe.

Pelzel said, "It's a circus at the free throw line. We'll do some things over break to hopefully change that."

Madison College, 6-3 overall, will next travel to Arizona for their annual Winter Trip Dec. 29 & 30.
