NJCAA D.II College World Series

WolfPack Face Top-Ranked LSU-Eunice, Possible Elimination at World Series

The Madison College baseball team will have a tight turnaround, playing the tournament's top-seeded team, LSU-Eunice, at 3:30 this afternoon after suffering their first loss of the World Series on Thursday, falling 17-11 to Western Oklahoma State.

The WolfPack and the Bengals have had a very different showings in this year's World Series so far. Madison College won their first two games, beating Community College of Rhode Island and Heartland Community College, prior to falling to defending champion Western Oklahoma State. LSU-Eunice lost their first game of the tournament, getting dropped by Des Moines Area Community College, 4-3, and has since won two straight over Scottsdale Community College and Des Moines Area Community College.

Both teams have proven to have a rather potent offense. The Bengals scored 13 runs in their win over Des Moines, while Madison College knocked in 11 in their loss. The WolfPack also put up 13 runs against Heartland three days ago.

If the WolfPack can grab the win over LSU-Eunice, the team could possibly be playing for a National Championship on Friday, June 1. For that to happen, Western Oklahoma State would have to eliminate Heartland Community College this evening at 7:00 PM. If there are three teams left entering tomorrow, the Pioneers would get the bye to the championship due to having played more games so far, and Madison College would be left to play Heartland with the winner gaining the spot opposite Western Oklahoma State College.
