NJCAA D.II College World Series

Ready for Revenge, WolfPack to Take on Western Oklahoma State Tonight

Two years ago, at the NJCAA Division II World Series, Western Oklahoma State College handed the Madison College baseball team their first loss of the tournament. Last year, the Pioneers ousted the WolfPack one game away from the championship, and went on to win the whole thing. Now, the two teams will meet once again.

The WolfPack, a winner of both of their games in this year's World Series, will look to ride the momentum they gained in a season-high 19-hit performance against second ranked Heartland Community College. In the outing against the Hawks, Madison College's top five batters combined to go 17-for-25 at the plate, and knock in 12 runs. Three players had four hits including Ryan McShane (4-for-6), Treysen Vavra (4-for-4), and Bryce Barsness (4-for-6). Vavra and Barsness also posted four RBI apiece.

If Madison College is able to get their revenge upon the Pioneers, the WolfPack would be the only unbeaten team left in the double-elimination tournament. The defending champs have proven to be far from an easy out though. So far in this year's World Series, the Pioneers have already beaten Grand Rapids Community College, Scottsdale Community College, and earlier this afternoon Des Moines Area Community College.

The WolfPack was able to beat Western Oklahoma State 6-5 in last year's World Series, prior to seeing the Pioneers have the last laugh. Western Oklahoma eventually sent the WolfPack home with a 7-6 win in ten innings, which moved them on to the National Championship game, and saw Madison College finish third place nationally. The two teams combined for 31 hits in their final game last season. It's a game the 'Pack would love to have back, and now they'll get their chance.

First pitch for tonight's game between Madison College and Western Oklahoma State is scheduled for 7:00 PM. The winner will meet Heartland Community College at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 31. The loser will square off with the winner of LSU-Eunice and Des Moines Area Community College at 3:30 PM on Thursday, May 31.
