Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 It was over almost as soon as it began. The Madison College baseball team mercied DI Kishwaukee College in back-to-back games, picking up a doubleheader sweep of the Kougars. The WolfPack took game one 12-1, and followed that up with a 14-3 victory in game two.
Game one, the WolfPack would waste no time in opening up a big lead. Madison College scored five runs on four hits in the first inning.
Landon Tenhagen accounted for the game's first RBI. Tenhagen doubled down the right field line to bring in
Ryan McShane.
Bryce Barsness would immediately follow that up with a two-run single, plating
Treysen Vavra and Tenhagen. Next up,
Shane Adler would double down the left field line to drive in Barsness, and McShane would later draw a walk to score Adler. The five runs would've been enough for the win, but the WolfPack wouldn't slow down at all offensively. In the second inning
Treysen Vavra would hit a solo homer, and
Jake Page doubled down the left field line for two more RBI. After just two innings Madison College was holding an 8-1 lead over Kishwaukee. The team would score their final four runs of the game in the third.
Cody Peterson (4-2) picked up the win for the WolfPack. Peterson threw four innings, giving up just two hits, one earned run, struck out three, and walked two.
Bryce Barsness (1-for-3) led the team offensively with three RBI, and accounted for two runs.
Jake Page (1-for-3) finished with two RBI for Madison College, and
Treysen Vavra (2-for-3, homerun) scored three times.
Game two, the 'Pack offense wouldn't make any noise until the second inning. However, as they proved in game one, once they get going they can be hard to stop. Madison would score six runs on four hits in the inning.
Josh Rowles singled to score the game's first run, in the form of
Bryce Barsness. Next,
Beau Goff hit his own single to score Rowles. After
Ryan McShane was hit by a pitch to bring in
Jon Dybevik, and
Luke Maldonado reached on a fielder's choice to score
Vincent Schmitz,
Treysen Vavra doubled to right center to allow Goff and Maldonado to come home. The WolfPack would carry a 7-3 lead into the bottom of the fourth, and once again they would get the bats going. This time it was seven runs on three hits, and one error. The 14 runs were the WolfPack's most since a 15-0 win over Harper College back on April 7.
Danny Sullivan (7-0) stayed perfect on the season by grabbing the victory for the WolfPack. Sullivan threw four and one-third innings, giving up three hits, three earned runs, striking out seven, and walking one.
Treysen Vavra (1-for-3) and
Beau Goff (1-for-3) led the team in RBI with three each.
Ryan McShane (2-for-3) added two RBI.
Bryce Barsness scored three times for the 'Pack.
Madison College (36-10, 11-1) will host South Suburban College in a doubleheader this Saturday, May 5. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM at Robin Roberts Field. The team will enter the contest riding a nine-game winning streak.
