WolfPack's 19 Hit Effort Grounds Second Ranked Hawks

Box Score Madison College came out swinging literally and figuratively in their second game of the NJCAA Division II College World Series against the #2 nationally ranked Heartland Community College Hawks.  The WolfPack used a season-high 19 hits to down the Hawks, 13-4.

The WolfPack got on the scoreboard first on a Landon Tenhagen single to left that scored Treysen Vavra in the first inning.  Madison College added four more runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 early lead after three and half innings.  In the bottom half of the third inning, Heartland finally got the board with a Michael Collins two-run home run.

Madison College responded to Heartland's first score with four more runs of their own over the next three innings including one run in the fourth and three runs in the sixth.  Heartland scored two runs in the seventh but the WolfPack once again responded by scoring two runs in each of the final two innings to runaway with the game, 13-4.

Madison College's top five batters combined for 17-for-25 and 12 RBIs.  Three players had four hits including Ryan McShane (4-for-6), Treysen Vavra (4-for-4), and Bryce Barsness (4-for-6).  Both Vavra and Barsness also posted four RBIs for an impressive night of hitting that led to a season-high 19 hits.

Luke Maldonado also went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases while Landon Tenhagen went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to cap an impressive offensive night for the WolfPack.

Former Germantown H.S. athlete, Tyler Thicke, pitched well giving up just four hits and two earned runs in five and a third innings worked.  Thicke struck out four batters and earned his sixth win of the season, improving to 6-0.  Cole Kroncke, Casey Doucette and Cody Peterson all came in for the WolfPack in relief. Peterson pitched the final three innings, striking out three and giving up just one hit to earn the save.

The #5 nationally ranked Madison College WolfPack got payback against the #2 nationally ranked Highland Community College Hawks for a March 19 loss.  With the 13-4 win, this time around, the WolfPack advance to play the winner of Des Moines Area Community College and Western Oklahoma State College on Wednesday, May 30 at 7:00 PM.
