Despite having to rally back late, it was Madison College which would get on the board first. Playing as the visiting team, even though the game was held at Robin Roberts Field, the 'Pack saw
Landon Tenhagen ground out to first to help score
Ryan McShane. After that the Chiefs would take over though. Waubonsee would score a run in the first, third, and fifth innings to take a 3-1 lead into the sixth. Never one to shy away from a challenge, Madison College would turn it up a notch offensively. First,
Treysen Vavra doubled to center field to plate
Luke Maldonado. Then,
Bryce Barsness came through with a double of his own to left center, a clutch hit which would score both Vavra and Tenhagen. The WolfPack had regained the lead, 4-3. The Chiefs would score a run in the bottom half of the sixth to knot the game back up at 4-4. However, Waubonsee would fall apart in the seventh. Two passed balls would result in runs being scored by
Ryan McShane and Maldonado. Shortly after,
Shane Adler would reach on a fielder's choice and score Vavra. Taking a three run lead into the bottom of the seventh was more than enough for
Brent Mueller. The WolfPack would blank the Chiefs in the final frame, picking up the three-run victory.
Brent Mueller (2-0) was credited with the win for the WolfPack. Mueller threw the game's final one and one-third innings, giving up zero hits, zero runs, striking out two, and walking nobody.
Bryce Barsness would lead the 'Pack offense, picking up two RBI after going 1-for-3 from the plate.
Landon Tenhagen led the team in hits, tallying two of Madison College's six for the game.
