Home Opener Not Nice to WolfPack Softball Team

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 They finally got a chance to play at home on Saturday, April 7, but the Madison College softball team couldn't get the result it wanted. After winning a makeup game 2-1, a postponed meeting with the Wolves dating back to March 23, the team dropped both games in a doubleheader, 5-0 and 11-7.

Game one, Madison College never got their offense going. The WolfPack finished with just two hits and three errors. Meanwhile, Joliet Junior College had five runs on nine hits, and just one error. The Wolves scored in the first, third, fifth, and seventh frames.

Marissa Shaner took the loss for the WolfPack. Shaner threw all seven innings, gave up nine hits, three earned runs, struck out four, and walked two.

Game two, the WolfPack bats would explode in the second inning. Trailing 1-0 after the opening inning, Madison College scored seven runs on five hits, and three errors. Brittany Kaltenberg, Amber Clifcorn, Courtney Ullmer, and Lindsey Reno all had hits which resulted in RBI in the inning. Unfortunately, the big inning by the 'Pack wouldn't matter, as the team failed to score for the remainder of the game. Joliet tied things up in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs, and would add two more in both the fourth and fifth innings.

Haley Hovland led the Madison College offense with two RBI, despite going 0-for-3 at the plate. Hovland also scored a run. Tena Funmaker took the loss for the WolfPack. Funmaker threw three and two-thirds innings, giving up six hits, six earned runs, striking out one, and walking three.

Madison College (9-14, 4-6) will travel to McHenry County College on Monday, April 9 for a doubleheader with the Fighting Scots. The action will get underway at 3:30 PM.
