Box Score 2 Just last season the College of DuPage softball team played for a shot at a National Championship. This season, citing the Madison College softball team's growth, the WolfPack picked up a split with the Chaparrals in the first of two doubleheaders between the two teams. Playing at DuPage, Madison College won Friday's opener 8-7, prior to falling 10-0 in game two.
Game one, the 'Pack bats came to life early. In the top of the first inning the team would score three times, and added another run in the second, taking a 4-2 lead into the fourth frame. Madison College got two more runs in the top of the fourth, but a big bottom half by the Chaparrals would result in the game being tied at six. The WolfPack would break that tie in the fifth. Two more runs would be enough for Madison to hold on for the 8-7 victory. The WolfPack took advantage of five DuPage errors, scoring their eight runs on just six hits.
Marissa Shaner picked up the victory for Madison College. In a complete game's work she allowed ten hits, six earned runs, struck out four, and walked two.
Heather Edgren led the WolfPack offensively, going three-for-three at the plate and adding an RBI.
Game two, things wouldn't go nearly as well for the WolfPack. Madison College was only able to muster up one hit against the Chaparrals, while College of DuPage managed 11. The end result was a 10-0 Chaparrals win in just five innings. DuPage was able to plate eight runs in the opening two innings.
Samantha Schuchardt took the loss for Madison College. In four innings she gave up ten hits, seven earned runs, struck out three, and walked one.
Tomorrow, Saturday, April 7, Madison College will compete in their home opener. The WolfPack will host Joliet Junior College in a doubleheader starting at 11:00 AM.
