WolfPack Baseball Team Flies Past Eagles

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 It's four wins in a row, and counting, for the Madison College baseball team. Friday afternoon, the WolfPack tallied a combined 17 runs in their doubleheader against Illinois Valley Community College, winning 10-3 and 7-1.

Game one, Madison College would open up a big lead. The WolfPack wouldn't allow an Eagles run until the fifth, scoring eight of their own prior to Illinois Valley getting on the board. Treysen Vavra opened the scoring for the 'Pack with a solo homerun in the first. The team would add three more runs, on three hits, in the second. Taylor Carlson doubled to center to score Jon Dybevik and Eric DuCharme, and Bryce Barsness would bring in Carlson with a sac bunt. Madison College had their best offensive showing in the fourth, scoring four times on three hits, and one error. Barsness, Luke Maldonado, and Vavra would all bat in runs. The eight run lead was big enough for the WolfPack, but the team would score two more times en route to the 10-3 victory.

Taylor Carlson (1-for-2) finished with a game-high three RBI. Bryce Barsness (2-for-3) and Treysen Vavra (2-for-4) each had two. Tyler Thicke was credited with the win for the WolfPack. Thicke threw five innings, giving up seven hits, two earned runs, struck out six, and walked zero.

Game two, Treysen Vavra got things started for the WolfPack once again. A sac fly to left would score Ryan McShane, the game's opening run, in the first. That would account for all the scoring in the game's opening three innings. However, in the fourth Madison College would get five runs on five hits to break things open. Beau Goff singled to left to score Vince Schmitz and Jake Page. Next, Luke Maldonado doubled to right to score Goff. Finally, a Landon Tenhagen double to right center would score Maldonado and Vavra. The 'Pack would coast after that, bringing home the 7-1 win.

Cole Kroncke was the winning pitcher for the WolfPack. Kroncke threw six innings, giving up four hits, zero earned runs, struck out seven, and walked zero. Landon Tenhagen (1-for-3) and Beau Goff (1-for-3) each finished with two RBI.

With the sweep of the Eagles, the WolfPack is now 14-5 overall on the season. Madison College will host conference foe Harper College tomorrow, Saturday, April 7, in a doubleheader that begins at 12:00 PM.
