WolfPack Baseball Team Takes Care of Lake County

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The College of Lake County was no match for the Madison College baseball team Thursday afternoon. Playing a doubleheader in Grayslake, IL, the WolfPack picked up a sweep of the Lancers 15-0, and 10-2.

Game one, Madison College got six runs in the first two innings. In the first, the 'Pack got three runs on zero hits. Bryce Barsness scored on a wild pitch, an Eric DuCharme walk scored Treysen Vavra, and Landon Tenhagen scored on a wild pitch. Lake County didn't help themselves out anymore in the second. Barsness scored on a passed ball, and then a DuCharme triple to right brought in Tenhagen and Vavra. After a scoreless third, the team added their final nine runs in the fourth and fifth for the mercy. The fourth inning saw the team get three hits for four runs, while in the fifth they got four hits and five runs. The Lancers were charged with three errors in that time frame, and finished with five for the game.

Eric DuCharme was the offensive standout for the WolfPack. With just two at-bats, DuCharme picked up five RBI, and scored twice. Beau Goff (1-for-3) added two RBI for Madison College. Paul Poirier picked up the win for the WolfPack. Poirier threw five innings, giving up four hits, zero earned runs, struck out one, and walked zero.

Game two, the Lancers would get on the board first. Lake County would take a 1-0 lead into the second inning. It wouldn't last though, with the Lancers falling apart in the fourth. Madison College collected three runs on one hit, and four Lake County errors. The 'Pack would add to their 4-1 lead in the fifth, getting runs off of a Jon Dybevik sac bunt, and a Ryan McShane single to center. A combined four more runs in the sixth and seventh inning would result in a 10-2 final, with the WolfPack giving up their only other run in the seventh.

Cody Peterson, who threw a complete game, got the victory. Peterson gave up just three hits, two earned runs, struck out six, and walked one. Ryan McShane led the WolfPack offense. McShane went three-for-four at the plate, finishing with three RBI, and two runs scored. Nathan Pollock and Jon Dybevik each finished with two RBI.

Madison College (12-5, 1-1) will compete in their home opener tomorrow, Friday, April 6, at 3:00 PM. The WolfPack will host Illinois Valley Community College in a doubleheader.
