WolfPack Baseball Team Claims Conference Crown

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Madison College baseball team is your North Central Community College Conference (N4C) champion once again. Hosting College of DuPage in a doubleheader Monday afternoon, a makeup from Saturday, the WolfPack would pick up the sweep to finish 11-1 in conference competition.

Game one, the Madison offense would get going in the second inning. Jon Dybevik would start things off with a single to left to score Bryce Barsness. Immediately following the game's first run, Beau Goff doubled to left center to plate Josh Rowles. The 'Pack would give one run back in the third, the result of a single to center by Michael Davis. However, in the bottom of the third the team would pick up right where they left off. Landon Tenhagen tripled down the right field line to score Treysen Vavra, and a Bryce Barsness bunt single would bring in Tenhagen. The WolfPack would add their final run in the fourth, with Luke Maldonado hitting a single to left to score Beau Goff, and then hang on for the 5-2 victory.

Paul Poirier (4-2) picked up the victory for the WolfPack. Poirier threw a complete game, giving up six hits, two earned runs, struck out five, and walked one. Offensively, Madison College collected their five runs on eight hits.

Game two, the WolfPack would make short order of the Chaparrals. Madison College would score ten runs on nine hits, in five innings, to pick up the 10-0 mercy of College of DuPage. The 'Pack would pick up four runs in the first, another five in the second, and one more in the third. Treysen Vavra, Eric DuCharme, and Nathan Pollock were responsible for driving in the runs in the first. In the second, Bryce Barsness and Luke Maldonado each singled to help score a run, prior to Barsness scoring on a passed ball later in the inning. Then, Eric DuCharme hit a sac fly to center to score Luke Maldonado, and Nathan Pollock singled to bring in Vavra. The team's final run, scored in the third, was a result of a Maldonado sac fly to right which would plate Josh Rowles.

Mac Wichmann (3-0) was credited with the win for the WolfPack. Wichmann threw four innings, giving up just one hit, zero runs, and walked only two batters. Eric DuCharme led Madison College offensively, finishing with three RBI despite not picking up a hit. Luke Maldonado and Nathan Pollock each finished with two RBI.

Madison College (33-10, 11-1) will visit Waubonsee Community College on Tuesday, May 1 for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 PM.
