WolfPack Softball Adds Another Conference Win

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Madison College softball team split another conference doubleheader, this time to the Triton College Trojans in River Grove, IL on Tuesday night. The WolfPack jumped ahead early and held on for the 7-0 win in game one, before being blanked by the host Trojans 4-0. After another doubleheader split, the WolfPack is currently 7-11 overall and 2-3 in N4C conference play.

Courtney Ullmer led a balanced offensive attack as she finished the opener 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Three other WolfPack drove in runs and the team made the most of their five hits in the 7-0 drubbing of the Trojans. Madison Milsap and Amber Clifcorn both scored twice in the win. Samantha Schuchardt pitched a gem in earning her first shutout of the season to improve to 3-4 on the year. She allowed three hits and walked two while picking up eight strikeouts in seven innings.

In the second game, the 'Pack was limited to two hits and Triton scored all four of their runs off of WolfPack starter Marissa Shaner in the first inning. Shaner settled down after the first inning hiccup and only allowed two more hits after the first to go along with seven strikeouts, but the Madison College bats never could get going. Shaner did account for one of the team's hits, along with fellow freshman Brittany Kaltenberg. One of the few bright spots in the second game was Kaltenberg's 32nd stolen base. The freshman is now 32 for 32 in steal attempts on the year.

The WoflPack returns to action on Friday, March 6 when they travel to Glen Ellyn, IL for a conference doubleheader with the College of DuPage Chaparrals.  The first game starts at 3:00 PM.
