Box Score In a mid-season addition to the 2012 schedule, the Madison College baseball team easily handled the University of Wisconsin Club Team in a 7-1, seven inning victory at Robin Roberts field on Tuesday afternoon. The WolfPack scored six runs in the first three innings as they cruised to the 7-1 non-conference win.
The University of Wisconsin got on the board early with a first inning unearned run off of Madison College starter
Casey Doucette, but the WolfPack offense took over with three runs in both the bottom of the second and third innings for the 6-1 lead. The 'Pack offense struck once more with a solo run in the fifth inning for the 7-1 final score. Doucette pitched well in the start, but didn't throw long enough for the win. His line for the day over three innings was no hits, no walks, fours strikeouts, and the one unearned run.
Mac Wichmann picked up the win in relief of Doucette to improve to 2-0 on the year. Wichmann's two strikeouts were a glimpse of more to come in the dominating outing by four WolfPack pitchers. In seven innings, the quartet faced 25 batters, allowed one hit, two walks, one unearned run and struck out 10 UW Club Team batters.
Ryan McShane's two run single to centerfield in the bottom of the second inning proved to be the difference as the hit gave Madison College a lead they would never relinquish. McShane also swiped a bag and scored a run, but wasn't the only member of the WolfPack with a big offensive day.
Treysen Vavra,
Vincent Schmitz, and
Taylor Carlson all had two of the 'Pack's 10 hits. Schmitz had a two run triple in the third to go along with two runs scored, Vavra scored twice, and Carlson finished with one RBI and one run scored.
