WolfPack Softball Collects First Sweep of Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Madison College softball team is back to .500 (6-6) in conference play. Hosting Triton College on Saturday, April 14, the WolfPack picked up their first doubleheader sweep of an opponent, winning 7-3 and 12-4.

Game one, the 'Pack put together an incredibly strong first inning, collecting five runs on six hits. Madison Milsap started things off with a single to left to score Brittany Kaltenberg. That was followed by a Samantha Schuchardt single to center to bring in Milsap and Amber Clifcorn, a Lindsey Reno single to center which scored Schuchardt, and a Haley Hovland ground out to short to plate Reno. The Trojans would get two back in the top of the fourth, but Madison College answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half. An Amber Clifcorn single to center would allow Milsap and Kaltenberg to cross the dish. The WolfPack would finish the game with 14 hits, while allowing Triton only three.

Samantha Schuchardt (5-6) got the win for the WolfPack. Schuchardt threw all seven innings, giving up just three hits, three earned runs, struck out eight, and walked seven. Amber Clifcorn and Schuchardt each finished with two RBI. Courtney Ullmer led the team in hits, going 4-for-4 at the plate.

Game two, Madison College would have less hits, but more runs scored. Once again, the WolfPack would get things going early. Courtney Ullmer and Marissa Shaner would each drive in a run via a pair of singles (scoring Madison Milsap and Amber Clifcorn). Heading into the third with a 2-0 lead, the 'Pack would really turn it up a notch. Madison College scored six runs on three hits, and one error. Jodee Taylor scored Clifcorn, Courtney Ullmer scored on a passed ball, Jessica Spern singled in Taylor, and a Brittany Kaltenberg double to left brought in Spern and Heather Edgren. Madison College collected the 12-4 mercy in five innings.

Marissa Shaner (7-6) was the winning pitcher for Madison College. Shaner threw five innings, giving up eight hits, one earned run, struck out four, and walked three. Brittany Kaltenberg, Amber Clifcorn, and Courtney Ullmer all finished with two RBI for the WolfPack.

Madison College (12-15, 6-6) will play their next conference doubleheader against Rock Valley College on Friday, April 20. The WolfPack will host the Golden Eagles, with the action set to begin at 3:00 PM.
