Box Score 2 The #4 nationally ranked Madison College Baseball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Williston State Community College on Monday with a 10-2 and 8-7 win in Tucson, AZ. The WolfPack combined for 27 hits in two games to remain undefeated on the season.
In the first game, Madison College scored five runs on five hits in the third inning to jump start the offense and second year righthander,
Cole Kroncke, pitched six innings giving up only four hits and allowing just one earned run to get the WolfPack a 10-2 win over Williston State.
The WolfPack jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third inning as
Nathan Pollock had a double to start the inning and his teammates answered with four more hits in the inning including RBIs for
Jake Page and
Taylor Carlson. Madison College added another run in the top of the fifth inning on a
Shane Adler single to centerfield. After five innings, the WolfPack led 6-0.
Cole Kroncke pitched well giving up just one hit over the first five innings.
Williston finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning but not before the WolfPack extended their lead to 8-0 in the top half of the inning. The WolfPack added another two runs in the top of the seventh and Williston added another run in the bottom of the seventh. Madison College beat Williston State Community College, 10-2, posting 12 hits and no errors in the win.
Leftfielder, Nathan Pollack went 3-for-4 with an RBI while teammates
Shane Adler and
Jake Page each had a triple and a pair of hits. Adler was 2-for-3 while Page was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Thirdbaseman
Josh Rowles also had 2 RBIs going 1-for-4.
Cole Kroncke earned the win and Mac Wichman pitched one inning in relief and struke out two batters.
In the second game, the WolfPack scored multiple runs in the first and third innings to lead 6-2 after three innings. In the third, Williston answered with three runs on five hits and tightened the game at 6-5. The WolfPack scored one run in the bottom of the sixth before Williston knotted the game at 7-7 in the top of the seventh.
In the top of the eighth, former Germantown athlete,
Tyler Thicke, pitched out of a bases loaded jam. In the bottom of the inning, with two guys on, Nathan Pollack bunted
Jon Dybevik home for the game winning run.
Former Burlington H.S. athlete,
Cody Peterson, earned the win pitching five innings, striking out three and giving up four earned runs.
Tyler Thicke received the save by pitching two innings and giving up no earned runs and pitching out of a bases loaded jam.
The WolfPack offense was provided by
Treysen Vavra's 3-for-4 afternoon that included two RBIs, a triple and three runs scored. Teammates Nathan Pollack and
Landon Tenhagen each had three hits and combined for three RBIs.
With the sweep the WolfPack improved to 3-0 and will play Northeastern Junior College at 3:00 PM tomorrow.
