WolfPack Baseball Wins Season Opener

Box Score On a beautiful sunny day in Phoenix, Arizona, the #4 nationally ranked Madison College Baseball team made its 2012 season debut a successful one as they beat the host Arizona Christian University JV, 7-6, in nine innings.

The WolfPack jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning as the team batted around the order and generated six hits.  Arizona Christian answered in the bottom of the third with four runs of their own on four hits and one error.  The WolfPack got another run in the fourth before Danny Sullivan completed his day after the fifth inning.  Sullivan pitched five innings, facing 24 batters, striking out two and giving up three earned runs.  Madison College tacked on another run in the six while Arizona Christian scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

With the host Firestorm trailing by just one run in the bottom of the ninth, the team put two men on with one just out.  Madison College righthander, Shane Adler, came up with a big strikeout to get the second out before intentionally loading the bases.  Adler was able to get the final batter to ground out to the third baseman, Josh Rowles, for the final out.  Adler received the save while teammate Danny Sullivan earned the victory.

The WolfPack recorded twelve hits as five batters had two hits including Eric DuCharme, Treysen Vavre, Dan Schmidt, Jake Page, and Luke Maldonado.  Schmidt posted two RBIs to go with his multiple hit day.

Madison College has a day off before facing Williston State College in Tucson, AZ at 1:00 PM on Monday.
