Life on the road in college athletics is never easy, but for the Madison College baseball team it has been good. The WolfPack improved to 11-4 away from Robin Roberts Field on Tuesday, with a doubleheader sweep of Sauk Valley Community College. Madison picked up 4-1, and 9-3 victories.
Game one, the Skyhawks got on the board first by driving in a run in the opening inning. However, the 'Pack would respond as Treysen Vavra brought in Ryan Freitag with a single to right in the third. The Madison bats would stay hot in the fourth, the team getting two more runs on three hits. The WolfPack would get their final offensive tally in the fifth, as a Josh Rowles single to left scored Andrew Wasmund. Kyle Coenen got the victory on the mound for the 'Pack. Coenen, who threw a complete game, struck out seven batters and gave up no earned runs in the 4-1 victory.
Game two, the WolfPack would rally once again. After giving up two first inning runs, Madison tallied five runs in the second. Jon Dybevik was the offensive star for the WolfPack. Dybevik, who tripled in the second with the bags full of Wolves, finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Ryan Freitag also tripled in the outing, bringing home Dybevik in the sixth. When it was all said and done, Madison College had registered nine runs on ten hits. Cole Kroncke grabbed the “W” for the WolfPack in game two. Kroncke threw five strong innings, striking out seven batters, in the 9-3 win.
