The Madison College baseball team is now the favorite to win the NJCAA Region IV Tournament. This, after rallying to beat Elgin Community College in their second outing in Crystal Lake, IL. The WolfPack scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth to win 9-8.
Things looked bleak for Madison entering the bottom of the seventh inning. The 'Pack trailed by five runs, but started to chip away scoring two runs on two hits. Still, Madison found themselves four runs back entering the final frame. It was then that the WolfPack really started to howl. First,
Andrew Wasmund singled to score
Tanner Vavra. Next, a Spartans error would lead to two more Madison runs.
Eric DuCharme would then pinch hit for
Jake Page, and a single to center brought home
Jon Dybevik to tie things at eight. The games winning run would be driven in by
Tanner Vavra. With the bases loaded, Vavra singled to right to bring in DuCharme and pick up the victory for the 'Pack.
Andy Stochl grabbed the win for the WolfPack. Stochl threw the final two and two-thirds innings, striking out two and giving up just one earned run.
The win puts the WolfPack just one victory away from clinching their second consecutive World Series berth. They will take on Kankakee in tomorrow's Region IV Championship at NOON. The 'Pack knocked off the Cavaliers 9-1 in their first outing of the tournament. Kankakee would need to beat Madison twice to advance to the World Series.
