WolfPack Advance the Hard Way

The Madison College Baseball team beat Prairie State College for the second time today in the NJCAA Region IV Sectional Baseball Tournament at Robin Roberts Baseball Field.  The WolfPack used fourteen hits to generate 16 runs and claim the 16-4 victory over the visiting Prairie State Pioneers.

Due to a round robin loss to the Pioneers on Friday, the WolfPack needed to beat Prairie State for the second time (they beat Prairie State 35-5 yesterday) to earn a trip to the NJCAA Region VI Tournament in McHenry, IL from May 20-22.  Madison College did just that as they jumped out to 3-0 lead before the Pioneers got on the scoreboard.  Prairie State scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning and the WolfPack answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning.  Over the next three innings the WolfPack poured in eleven runs including five runs in the seventh and four runs in the eighth to win 16-4.

The WolfPack managed fourteen hits and six of those hits came from Tyler Brusky and Jake Page who each went 3-for-5.  Brusky had three RBIs.  Andrew Wasmund had a big day as he went 2-for-4 with six RBIs, including two RBIs on a fifth inning home run.  The WolfPack had two home runs on the day as Andrew Wasmund and Ryan Freitag each hit one out.  Freitag's home run was his third straight game with a home run.  Treysen Vavra and Jon Dybevik each had two hits as well.

Michael Huckabay earned his seventh win of the season to push his overall record to a perfect 7-0.  Huckabay pitched four innings giving up four hits and two earned runs.  Mitchell Arens and Andy Stochl came in in relief.  Arens pitched four innings, striking out four and giving up two hits and two earned runs while Stochl pitched one hitless inning.

The WolfPack earned their thirty-ninth win of the season and more importantly advanced to the NJCAA Region IV Tournament in McHenry, IL from May 20-22.
