On Sunday, May 1 the WolfPack softball team hosted the North Iowa Area Community College Trojans from Mason City, IA in a doubleheader at the softball complex in Madison, WI. The two non-conference games marked the season finales for the WolfPack. The visiting Trojans took both game 11-5 and 10-0.
The WolfPack played the Trojans close, especially at first as the home team scored two runs in the second inning for an early 2-1 lead. Madison College and starter Tena Funmaker couldn't hold the lead though as NIACC scored seven runs from the third to the fifth innings before the WolfPack did their best to get back into it three runs in the fifth inning. Unfortunately the damage had been done as North Iowa Area picked up the win in game one, 11-5.
Athena Brabant led the team at the plate by going 2-for-4 with an RBI, and the team managed five hits in the loss.
The Trojans jumped on top from the beginning as they scored six runs in the first three innings before scoring four more in the last two frames in the 10-0 game two loss. Starter Jessica Spern hurled the first two innings, and Gabrielle Komprood tossed the last four innings in the shutout for the visitors.
Next up for the 0-31 Madison College softball team is a NJCAA Region IV Tournament Play-in Game against Harper College on Tuesday, May 3 in Palatine, IL. The game starts at 1:00 PM.
