The Madison College baseball team picked up two more wins in Oglesby, IL on April 7 by defeating the Illinois Valley Community College Eagles 13-3 and 6-1.
Jake Peterson got the start in game one and scattered two hits and three walks for two runs in four innings on his way to the win. Up 11-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, Peterson surrendered two Eagle runs to make the score 11-2 before Madison College plated two more runs in the top of the sixth for the 13-2 lead. Cole Kroncke came in relief of Peterson and gave up a run in one inning of the five frame game.
Tanner Vavra led the WolfPack offense by finishing 3-for-4 with two RBI and scored four times. He also tripled and stole two bases. Josh Rowles was the only other WolfPack that finished with multiple hits in the game as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI, two runs, and a stolen base. Ryan Freitag went 1-for-2 with three RBI and a double, and Jon Dybevik drove in two runs, scored a run, and added a stolen base to go along with his 1-for-3 effort. The WolfPack offense belted out 11 hits on their way to scoring 13 runs. Illinois Valley aided the 'Pack attack with four errors and five walks.
In game two of the doubleheader, both offensive attacks were silent early on before the WolfPack got on the board first with a run in third inning and two in the fourth. The home team narrowed the gap in the bottom of the fourth with a run of their own to make it a 3-1 ball game, but the WolfPack bats could not be silenced as they tacked on three runs in the fifth inning. Up 6-1 heading in to the bottom of the fifth, starting pitcher Andy Stochl recorded three more outs for the five inning complete game as the game was called on the account of darkness. He surrendered four hits and walked four, and the only run that crossed the plate was the unearned run in the bottom of the fourth. Catcher Jake Page led the WolfPack at the plate with two hits in two at bats. Page also doubled and scored in the 6-1 victory.
Next up for the Madison College baseball team is their home opener against the College of Lake County on April 8. The first game of the home opening doubleheader starts at 3:00 PM.
