Madison College overpowered the Elgin Community College Spartans 9-2 at Robin Roberts Field to extend another winning streak; this time the WolfPacks' home win streak. The 'Pack remained unbeaten at home with the non-conference win as they improved to 11-0 at Robin Roberts Field and 26-8 overall.
Starter Joel Effertz scattered eight hits and allowed one run in five and two third innings for his fifth win of the season. The earned run for the Spartans in the third inning was his lone blemish before Quintin Zander came in for the last three and a third innings to silence the opponent bats and earn the rare three inning save. The lone run off of Zander came in the top of the eighth.
After falling behind by a run when Elgin plated their first run in the third inning, the WolfPack immediately responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame before adding five runs over the next three innings. Elgin wouldn't go away and scored their second run in the eighth before Madison College added three more insurance runs in the bottom half of the inning. Zander then threw a scoreless ninth and Madison picked up their 26th victory of the year in the 9-2 beat down.
Four WolfPack recorded two hits, led by Tanner Vavra and James Furlano who went 2-for-4 on the day. Tanner Vavra and Furlano both added two RBI and a run scored. Andrew Wasmund and Jake Page finished right behind the aforementioned duo as they went 2-for-5 at the plate with two RBI apiece. Jordan Chardukian recorded the only 'Pack extra base hit with a double, and three Madison College baseball players added a stolen base.
The WolfPack look to improve to 12-0 at Robin Roberts Field when they host the club team from the University of Wisconsin on April 27. The nine inning game against the Badgers starts at 5:00 PM.
