WolfPack Baseball Stays Hot in Conference Play

The Madison College baseball team won their fourth and fifth straight conference games by sweeping a home doubleheader against the Joliet JC Wolves 5-4 and 7-1 on Sunday, April 22.

The WolfPack completed the comeback in game one after falling behind 4-1 heading into the final inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning Treysen Vavra led of with a single and pinch hitter James Furlano walked to get things started. Luke Maldonado then followed by reaching on an error and Vavra scored to bring the WolfPack closer by a run.  Now down 4-2, Madison College continued the rally as Jon Dybevik tied the game with a RBI single to right field to even the game at 4-4. With the hot hitting Ryan Freitag at the plate with Dybevik on first, Madison was poised to get over the hump to pick up the big conference win. Freitag did just that as his smash double to right plated Dybevik and gave the home team the 5-4 comeback victory.

Reliever Casey Doucette was credited with the win and Freitag led the team at the plate by going 1-for-4 with two RBI and the lone 'Pack extra base hit.

Game two started off much differently than the opener of the doubleheader as the WolfPack pounced on their opponent early and plated five runs in the bottom of the first for the 5-0 lead. Joliet picked up their lone run of the game off of starter Michael Huckabay in the top of the third, and the WolfPack added two more in the bottom of the inning for even more separation and the 7-1 lead. Huckabay buckled down after the blemish in the third and completed the game for the team's fifth straight conference win. Huckabay threw seven strong innings in the contest, and only allowed five hits and a walk to go along with the run. He recorded one strikeout as he improved to 4-0 on the year.

Eric DuCharme paced the team at the dish with two hits in three at bats. He also scored twice and drove in two runs. Treysen Vara also finished the game with two hits, and six other WolfPack registered a hit. Jake Page and Furlano both had doubles for the 21-8 WolfPack.

Other than picking up win 21 overall, the WolfPack improved to 5-1 in the North Central Community College Conference (N4C) and are right back at it on Monday, April 18. The WolfPack host the Triton College Trojans in for another doubleheader at Robin Roberts Field in Madison, WI. The first game of the doubleheader starts at 2:00 PM.
