The Madison College baseball team traveled to Sugar Grove, IL with their sights set on extending their winning streak, but the Waubonsee Community College Chiefs had other ideas as they mounted the comeback to pick up the 7-6 win in 12 innings.

The WolPack looked poised to pick up another victory as they jumped ahead early with six runs in the top of second in support of starter Kyle Coenen. Jordan Chardukian got the six-run second inning started with a single down the left field line, and was sacrificed over by James Furlano. With one out, Chardukian came around to score on Treysen Vavra's RBI single to right field for the first run of the game. Jon Dybevik then singled and Garrett Novinski followed with a walk to load the bases. Trevor Burmeister accounted for the second out of the game when he grounded out to the shortstop, but he also drove in Treysen Vavra in the process before Tanner Vavra followed with the one of the big hits of the inning. Tanner Vavra's double to right center plated two Madison runs and the WolfPack held the 4-0 advantage, before Ryan Freitag one-upped Tanner Vavra as he stroked a two run homer run to up the lead by two.

Armed with the 6-0 lead, Coenen suffered a one run blemish in the bottom of the second before throwing a scoreless third in efficient fashion. In the bottom of the fourth Coenen ran into major problems as he gave up five runs and the Chiefs knotted up the game at six.

Tied 6-6, the two teams went back and forth posting zeros in the run column as the as WolfPack relief pitchers Parker Schrage and Joel Effertz, and the two Waubonsee hurlers silenced each others bats. Waubonsee finally ended the extra inning affair with a run in the bottom of the twelfth inning off of Effertz for the 7-6 walk-off win.

The 19-8 WolfPack looks to get back on the winning side with a doubleheader against conference foe Joliet Junior College on Sunday, April 17. The home games at Robin Roberts field in Madison start at 12:00 PM.
