The Madison College baseball team kept up their winning ways Saturday afternoon with 5-0 and 7-1 victories over their conference rival, the Milwaukee Area Technical College Stormers in Milwaukee, WI. With the victory, the 'Pack extended their winning streak to six consecutive games and improved to 16-7 overall and 3-1 in N4C play.
Starting pitcher Parker Schrage started the doubleheader by silencing the Stormer bats on the way to the seven inning no-hitter and the 5-0 win. Not only did he pick up his third win of the season, Schrage struck out four with his lone blemish occurring on a fourth inning Stormer walk.
The WolfPack offense did their part and aided Schrage out of the gate with two runs in the first inning, and a run a piece the next two frames. Madison College tacked on another run in the fifth inning and Schrage continued his impressive outing on the way to winning game one 5-0.
Six WolfPack each added one hit and leadoff man Eric DuCharme started the offense by scoring the first run after singling to start the game. With two outs Andrew Wasmund's single to right field plated DuCharme and Wasmund later scored on an error after stealing second base. Garret Novinski doubled in the second inning and scored on a balk, and Jordan Chardukian led off the third inning with a double down the right field line before scoring on Josh Rowles' perfectly executed squeeze bunt. Up 4-0, Ryan Freitag scored the final WolfPack run after singling to center field in the fifth inning. He later scored on another Stormer balk. Novinski and Chardukian recorded doubles in the game, and Freitag and Wasmund both finished with two stolen bases.
The second game of the doubleheader saw two more great pitching performances as the WolfPack rolled over the Stormers for the 7-1 victory. Cody Peterson picked up his second win of the year by limiting MATC-Milwaukee to one run on three hits and a walk. He also struck out three in five innings before being relieved by Cole Kroncke. Kroncke lowered his season ERA to 1.23 with two innings of no-hit ball. He also struckout three.
Much like game one of the doubleheader, the WolfPack offense got the team on the board right away with two runs in the first inning, and one run apiece the next two frames before MATC-Milwaukee scored their lone run in the bottom of the third. Madison College scored two more runs in the top of the fourth inning and tacked on their final insurance run in the seventh inning.
Trevor Burmeister went 2-for-3 at the plate with a RBI and a run scored. He also added a steal. Jake Page finished right behind Burmeister and was 2-for-4 and a RBI. Andrew Wasmund provided the WolfPack's only extra base hit of the game with his third inning double in the 7-1 blowout win.
Madison College looks to improve on their six game winning streak when they host Kishwaukee College Sunday afternoon for the doubleheader.
