Madison College Gets Quality Starts From Pitching Staff

Tyler Jones threw a complete game and struck out seven batters in a 4-1 win over Joliet Junior College.

The WolfPack's starting pitchers stymied Joliet Junior College. Cody Griebling and Tyler Jones combined to throw for 13 innings while striking out 12 batters and only allowing four earned runs. The end result was a 1-1 split of the doubleheader against Joliet.

In the first game, the WolfPack finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh inning and tied the game at 3-3. After Michael Huckabay shutdown the Wolves' bats in the bottom of the seventh inning, the game went into extra innings.

In the top of the eighth, the WolfPack bats stayed hot and they scored two more runs. James Furlano batted in a run and Garrett Novinski scored an unearned run to carry a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the eighth.

Joliet tied the game again at 5-5 with one out after two consecutive doubles and a single. After loading the bases, Jon VanAsdlen hit a walk-off grand slam to clinch the extra innings victory for the Wolves.

In the second game, the WolfPack never trailed in their 4-1 victory. Tyler Jones threw a complete game and improved his season record to 3-0.

Madison College got on the board early as Jordan Chardukian scored in the first inning on a Brent Kakwitch RBI. In the top of the seventh inning Justin Hunt gave the WolfPack two insurance runs on a single to right field. Jones closed out the game allowing two hits in the final inning and left three Wolves' base runners stranded to close out the game.
