Mitch Arens Throws a No-hitter, WolfPack Bats Clobber Rock Valley

John Perszyk and the WolfPack put up 39 runs against Rock Valley in two games.

Mitch Arens threw a no-hitter against Rock Valley College and the WolfPack (36-7) hit seven home runs in two games. They outscored the Golden Eagles 39-8 in the two games and put up 14 runs in the first inning of the second game.

Madison College won the first game 12-0 and the second game 27-8, extending their winning streak to six.

Arens (3-0) struck out six and walked four batters in five innings, giving the WolfPack their second no-hitter of the year. The no-hitter came less than a week after a 13-strikeout performance against North Arkansas College.

Justin Scanlon, who leads the WolfPack in batting average, RBIs and hits, got his first home run of the year in the fifth inning. Luke Marwitz also went deep in the first game hitting his second of the year. Jordan Chardukian continued his solid play going 2-for-2 with three RBIs and scoring two runs in the first game.

Madison College was unable to throw out two consecutive no-hitters, but they had plenty of offense in the second game. The WolfPack scored 14 of their 27 runs in the first inning. The Rock Valley starting pitcher, Jerod Doty, lasted just one-third of an inning and gave up 13 earned runs.

The WolfPack hit three home runs in the first inning. Brent Kakwitch hit two and Kyle Van Abel went deep once. Van Abel hit a second home run in the fourth inning. It was his fifth home run in six games.

Kakwitch went 2-for-2 from the plate and led the team with six RBIs. Van Abel was 3-for-4 and drove in five runs. John Perszyk was a perfect 5-for-5 from the plate including a double and a triple. He also had four RBIs.

As a team the WolfPack went 18-for-33 from the plate, with 13 of those being extra-base hits.

Jack Larsen started out the game on the mound for the WolfPack. Josh Jaro came in for two innings of relief and picked up the win, improving his record to 3-0 and Kevin Wild closed out the game, striking out two of the three batters he faced.

The WolfPack have a six-game home stand this weekend playing two games apiece against Highland Community College, Kankakee Community College and South Suburban College.

On Saturday, May 1, the WolfPack host the #7 nationally ranked Kankakee Community College Cavaliers at 12:00 PM at Robin Roberts Field.
