The WolfPack softball team ended an eight-game slide with a 9-4 win over Harper College in Madison on April 15.
Madison College (4-13-1) took a 4-1 lead into the top of the sixth inning where Harper College scored three runs to tie the game up 4-4. It was in the bottom of the sixth where the WolfPack got the bats going and scored five runs to open up a 9-4 lead heading into the last inning of the game. After a scoreless top of the seventh inning, the WolfPack won the first of two games against the Hawks.
First-year player
Haeli Kruse hit a home run for the WolfPack going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Fellow first-year player
Kristen Stendahl went 3-for-3 and also batted in two runs for an offense that racked up nine runs and eight hits. It was their biggest offensive display of the season. The nine runs are the most that they've scored all season.
Pitchers
Mary Hershberger and
Keriann Schmidt both pitched well in the 9-4 win.
Hershberger went five innings while giving up just two earned runs with four strikeouts.
Schmidt picked up the win in her relief appearance and struck out two batters while giving up no earned runs in her two innings of work.
The second game of the doubleheader ended in a 5-5 tie. The game was called early because it was too dark to finish off the final inning. The WolfPack trailed 4-2 through four innings, but they battled back and tied the game in the seventh inning.
Jenna Brown,
Athena Brabant and
Jamie Nolan all went 2-for-4 from the plate, combining for six of the WolfPack's eight hits.
Heather Hornback and Brabant each hit a triple for the surging WolfPack offense.
Jami Ryan threw six solid innings and tallied six strikeouts in her start. For the second straight game
Keriann Schmidt came out of the bullpen to pitch an inning of work and allowed no earned runs.
