The WolfPack played their first two home games of the year and took second place as they hosted the Border Battle Classic on Nov. 12-13.

The WolfPack (2-2) opened up the tournament against Gogebic Community College with a 68-52 win and dropped the championship game 77-64 against Rochester Community & Technical College.

After putting up nearly identical numbers in the second half of each game, 36-31 against the Samsons and 36-33 against the Yellowjackets, the deciding half in each game was the first half. In their win, they entered halftime with a 12-point lead and in their loss they trailed by 16 at the end of the first half.

Corey Yahnke put up a double-double in the first game with 15 points and 15 rebounds. He spent a good portion of the game at the freethrow line, hitting 11 of 15 attempts. The WolfPack also got a valiant effort from Jordan Van Cleave, who scored five points to go along with 11 rebounds and seven assists while playing a team-high 29 minutes and 57 seconds.

The WolfPack scoring was rounded out by first-year players Sharod Stone and Garrett Borgrud, who scored 12 and 10 respectively. Borgrud shot an impressive 5-for-6 from the floor in the game.

Despite holding the Yellowjackets' starters to just 26 points, their bench came up big, scoring the remaining 51 points and outscored the WolfPack bench by 22.

Another reason for falling behind early against the Yellowjackets was the play in the paint. The Yellowjackets outscored the WolfPack 26-8 down low.

Aaron Jones was hot from beyond the arc, hitting 3-of-5 attmepts and scoring a team-high 15 points. He was followed up by Stone with 11 and Borgrud with 10. Stone was also shooting well from the 3-point line, hitting both of his attempts.

The WolfPack next play Division I opponent Sauk Valley Community College in Madison on Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m.
