MADISON, WISC. - Madison College and Oakton College played to a 1-1 draw in Saturday's Region 4 clash at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East, allowing the #9-ranked WolfPack to extend their home unbeaten streak to 24 consecutive matches. Sophomore
Gio Diaz scored the lone goal for the Pack, who are 2-2-1 all-time against the Owls.
Madison College dominated the ball throughout much of the match, resulting in a sizable 28-5 differential in total shots and a 17-2 advantage in shots on goal. Unfortunately, for the WolfPack, only one of those 17 shots on goal found the back of the net. With the score even at 0-0, Madison Diaz held a free kick from outside the penalty area by the left corner and it ricocheted off the Oakton defense in the direction of Diaz. The second year midfielder/forward from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, made a quick move to his right to evade a defender for spinning a low shot back towards the left post for a 1-0 lead in the 29'. The scoring strike ties Diaz for the team lead with three on the season.
Still leading 1-0 midway through the second half, Madison continued to pepper the Owls goal with shot attempts; however, the Oakton goalkeeper was up to the challenge. In the match's 76', that all changed. A free kick from the Owls' defensive half went uncleared by the WolfPack. A nifty no-look, between-the-legs pass led to a lasered shot from the 18 and it twisted past a diving
Thomas Randall in goal to just stay inside the left post for the equalizer. The first goal allowed by the WolfPack this season snapped a string of 345 consecutive scoreless minutes after three straight shutouts.
Diaz finished with a team-leading five shots on goal, while sophomores
Josh Kiltz Gui Amaral had four and two, respectively. Randall finished with one save and one goal allowed.
