CHAMPAIGN, ILL. - Tuesday trip to southern Illinois proved fruitful for the Madison College men's soccer team, who returned home with a 6-0 win over Parkland College to extend their current shutout streak to three consecutive matches. Six different players scored and goalkeeper
Thomas Randall earned his fourth clean sheet for the #14-ranked WolfPack. Madison College is now 2-0 all-time against the Cobras.
It took less than for Madison College to get on the scoreboard as Parkland College (2-4-5) turned possession over after the starting kick. After the subsequent throw-in, sophomore
Josh Kiltz fed a pass to freshman midfielder/defender
Bryan Hernandez on the left side of the penalty area. Hernandez made a move past a defender and was able to beat the goalkeeper with a low shot from a tight angle to give the Pack a 1-0 lead. The scoring strike was the second this season for the native of DeForest, Wisconsin.
The day's second goal came in the 10' from the second year tandem of
Gui Amaral and
Gio Diaz. Receiving a pass from the sideline, Amaral worked his way to the middle of the pitch beyond the half circle, and chipped a pass to Diaz in the penalty box. The Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, native, then added to his team-leading goal total with a blast past the keeper for his fifth of the year.
The WolfPack took a 3-0 lead in the 28' as first year forward
Angel Gomez Lopez converted a pass from
Cris Quezada for his third goal. Quezada's pass found Gomez Lopez charging through the Cobras back line, and with one tap of the ball, he was able to evade the oncoming goalkeeper before booting it in with his left foot.
It remained a three-goal lead deep into the second half when Madison College added three goals over the final 23 minutes.
Ben Young, a freshman from Essex, England, scored his first collegiate goal with an assist from Gomez Lopez in the 68'. The 75' saw Westerheim, Germany, product,
Chuck Frank register his first career goal, with an assist by
Kian Downey. The final tally occurred in the 89' when first year midfielder
Luis Rojas came upon a loose ball amid some chaos around the goalie box and was able to tap it in the back of the net. Rojas now boasts two goals on the season.
The WolfPack outshot the home team by a 16-3 margin, including a 12-2 differential in shots on goal. Randall, a freshman, was credited with two saves en route to the team's sixth shutout effort this fall.Â
