Madison College Wolfpack

SPRINGFIELD, ILL. - The Madison College women's volleyball team has won 18 straight sets after picking up four victories by 3-0 sweeps at the Lincoln Land Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The #16-ranked WolfPack opened with wins over Hawkeye Community College and Lewis & Clark Community College, before closing out wins against Rend Lake College and Marian University-Plymouth.

Match #1: #16 Madison College 3, Hawkeye Community College 0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-22)

Madison College found itself down 20-17 in the first set to the Hawkeye Community College (10-9), but answered with an 8-0 run capped by an ace from freshman Amara Jahner. The late surge was highlighted by three kills and a block from sophomore Ella Vosberg. Set two was also close down the stretch with the teams even at 20-20 before the WolfPack took five of the final with sophomore Makayla Dallas and freshman Colby LaPlant each terminating a kill in the final sequence. Madison College led by as much as five in the final set at 19-14 before the advantage dwindled to two. LaPlant closed out the match with a kill on an Allie Andrews assist in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

The WolfPack finished with a 35-25 edge in kills and a 56-42 lead in digs, while the RedTails owned the net defensively with a 10-2 discrepancy in blocks.

Dallas, a native of Valders, Wisconsin, was tops offensively with nine kills and a .286 hitting efficiency, while Vosberg and Andrews each had six kills. Andrews posted 29 assists, Jahner tallied three aces, and freshman libero Jaydon Golsteyn added a team-high ten digs.

Match #2: #16 Madison College 3, Lewis & Clark Community College 0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-23)

Against the Trailblazers (12-10), Madison College used a 5-0 run midway through the first set to take a 17-12 lead before winning by seven. The WolfPack dominated the second set before holding off a late rally in the third that saw a five-point lead evaporate into a 23-23 tie before freshman Braelee Kiepert hammered home back-to-back kills for the win in another first-ever meeting between the two programs. 

Madison College finished with 39 kills on a .280 attack percentage, as well as four aces, 5.0 blocks, and 52 digs. 

Sophomore middle blocker Caylee Coggins posted a season-high ten kills and hit an impressive .600. The Columbia, Missouri, native, also added 2.0 blocks. Kiepert was second with nine kills and a hit at a .421 clip.

Setter Allie Andrews nearly earned a double-double with 31 assists and nine digs, to go along with six kills and one block.

A pair of freshman reached double-figures in digs, with libero Amara Jahner tracking down a team-best 18 digs, followed by a career-high ten from Colby LaPlant. 

Match #1: #16 Madison College 3, Rend Lake College 0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-15)

The all-time series between Madison College and Rend Lake College (8-12) is now even at 1-1 after the WolfPack secured the sweep. They finished with a 40-25 differential in kills behind a .220 attack percentage, and were also better in aces (9-3) and digs (60-45). Both teams registered 6.0 blocks.

The opening set saw the Pack lead early and trail late before a 5-0 surge turned a two-point deficit into a 23-20 lead. Second year Caylee Coggins posted back-to-back aces during the service run as Madison closed the set with a larger 7-1 push. In set two, the Warriors led for most of the set until Madison College erased a five-point gap with a 13-5 surge. That momentum continued into the third set, which the WolfPack controlled throughout and won by ten.

Ella Vosberg, an outside hitter from Cuba City, Wisconsin, racked up 14 kills and a .310 attack percentage to pace the offense. It marked her tenth match this season with double-digit kills.

Sophomore Allie Andrews recorded her tenth double-double of the year with 35 assists and 11 digs. Coggins tallied four aces and 1.5 blocks, and libero Amara Jahner was tops with 13 digs.

Match #1: #16 Madison College 3, Marian University-Plymouth 0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-18)

The WolfPack were in control for much of the weekend's final match against Marian University-Plymouth (8-11), extending their lead in the head-to-head series to a perfect 6-0. Madison College closed out set one with a 15-6 burst, then followed suit and broke a 9-9 tie in the second set with a quick 4-0 burst that was part of a bigger 16-5 surge, which ended with an Amara Jahner ace. Momentum carried into the third set that saw the Pack slowly pull away to earn their 18th consecutive set win.

Makayla Dallas, a second year right side hitter, terminated a dozen kills for her seventh match this season with ten or more. She finished with a .250 hitting percentage. 

Freshman Gretchen Kammerer, a setter from Brodhead, Wisconsin, posted a career-high 29 assists, to go along with six digs and two kills. Allie Andrews added 11 assists. 

Colby LaPlant also established a new career-best as the native of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, had six aces, along with six digs and five kills.

Sophomore libero/outside hitter Sam Schultz tracked down 15 digs.

Madison College ended with 44 kills and a season-best .347 attack percentage. The WolfPack also had ten aces, 6.0 blocks, and 54 digs.

Madison College (13-4) is back home for back-to-back Region 4 matches, starting Wednesday, September 30 against Harper College (14-6). The all-time series favors the Hawks by a narrow 21-20 margin, with the WolfPack claiming the most recent meeting in last year's Region 4 championship. First serve is at 6:00 p.m. inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium and will be streamed live at MadisonCollege.tv.

The night will also be Youth Night, with free attendance to any youth players wearing their team jersey or Madison College women's volleyball camp t-shirt.
