Season-high ten goals sends #10 WolfPack to rout of Kankakee

Sophomore Amaral, freshman Gomez Lopez net first career multi-goal games

MADISON, WISC. - It had been nearly a month since the Madison College men's soccer team had a match that ended with more than a two-goal differential, a stretch that ended Saturday with a 10-0 drubbing of Kankakee Community College in a Region 4 match at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. The #10-ranked WolfPack saw eight different players score a goal, led by two goals from sophomore Gui Amaral and freshman Angel Gomez Lopez, as well as five points by sophomore Gio Diaz. The win improves the Pack's lead in the all-time series to 7-2.

Madison College raced out to a 6-0 lead in the first half and scored two goals in the game's first eight minutes. Amaral, a midfielder from Sao Paulo, Brazil, tallied the first goal as the 4' ended. A long throw-in towards the goal box by freshman Owen Counsell was headed out by a Kankakee Community College (1-6-3) player; however, it bounced right to Amara, who hammered a left-footed shot out of mid-air that was beyond the goalkeeper's reach. The game's second goal came in the 8' as Diaz, a midfielder/forward, broke down the Cavaliers defense via the dribble and made his way towards the end line. He sent a centering pass right in front of the goal, where Counsell was charging and the freshman from Brookfield, Wisconsin, tapped it home for his third goal this season.

Diaz, a former Badger HS athlete, did all the heavy lifting again as the WolfPack went ahead 3-0 in the 23'. Diaz maneuvered through the KCC defense on the opposite side of the box before again centering a pass towards the net, and this time it was Gomez Lopez who was there to convert. After back-to-back assists on scoring plays, Diaz was finally able to put his own name in the scoring column in the 25'. Gomez Lopez was able to put a shot on goal off the right side of the goal box; however, the KCC goalkeeper denied the shot and deflected it out. The ball eventually settled at the feet of Diaz, who used the low, bouncing scoring strike to get by the GK for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

The final goals of the half came in the 34' and 42' as Madison College took full control of the match. Freshman Kian Downey, a midfielder from London, England, converted a penalty kick for his first career goal. Off a corner kick by Isaac Diaz, first year defender Ben Young headed the ball across the goal box, where Huntley, Illinois, native, Noah Gomez attempted a subsequent header that resulted in a goal. It was also his first career goal.

The second half remained all about the WolfPack as they tallied four goals before the match ended via mercy rule at the 70' mark. Diaz racked up another assist as Amaral punched in his second goal of the match and season in the 49'. Freshman Dylan Sutton, a forward from Milton Keynes, England, followed with a 50' goal on an assist from Counsell, pushing Sutton into a tie with Diaz for the team lead in goals this season. Madison College awarded another penalty kick in the 52', and freshman Cris Quezada put it away for his first career goal. The final goal came in the 66' as Gomez Lopez added his name to the multi-goal scorer list with his second of the day on an assist from freshman Chuck Frank.

Madison College held the opposition without a shot on goal for the second straight match, and took it a step further by holding KCC without a single shot attempt at all. Meanwhile, the WolfPack racked up 18 shots and 11 shots on goal. First year goalkeeper Thomas Randall earned his consecutive clean sheet.
