Madison College Wolfpack

MADISON, WISC. - Madison College put forth a complete team effort Wednesday night in a dominant 3-0 sweep of Triton College inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. The #16-ranked WolfPack won by scores of 25-18, 25-12, 25-16 and saw several players record career-highs statistically. The win is the 26th straight for the Pack against the Trojans, improving their all-time series lead to 26-4.

Tied at 13-13 in the first set, freshman outside hitter Colby LaPlant hammered home a kill and served an ace to bookend a 6-0 run. After the Trojans closed to within 20-18 with a 5-1 surge, the WolfPack closed out the set with five straight points, including a pair of kills by Ella Vosberg and another from Makayla Dallas on set point. The sophomore duo each had five kills in the opening set. 

Triton College (8-5) came out hot in the second set, using an ace and a pair of kills to take a 5-0 lead; however, the WolfPack responded in a big way, scoring the next 16 points and forcing the visitors into using two timeouts. Dallas added six more kills during the long service run of freshman Braelee Kiepert, who had a pair of aces. The outside hitter from Appleton, Wisconsin, also ended the set with her lone kill of the match.

In set three, Madison College held an early three-point lead until a 4-0 run by Triton. Leading 16-15 midway through the set, the Pack rattled off nine of the next ten points to finish off the sweep.

The WolfPack amassed 43 kills and a .269 attack percentage, compared to 21 kills and a .064 efficiency. Madison averaged 14.3 kills per set, with a high of 17 kills in the third set and a hitting percentage high of .282 in the second. The home team also held advantages in aces (5-3) and digs (69-49).

Dallas, a native of Valders, Wisconsin, was the lone player with double-digit kills, posting 11 kills for her sixth match with ten or more this season. LaPlant, an outside hitter from Grand Rapids, Minnesota, set a career-high with nine kills, while also tracking down a career-best eight digs. Caylee Coggins, Sam Schultz, Danica Pauls, and Vosberg each had five kills.

All-American setter Allie Andrews racked up 17 assists, while freshman Gretchen Kammerer, a native of Brodhead, Wisconsin, tallied a career-high 15 assists.

Freshman libero Amara Jahner was all over the back row, collecting a career-best 24 digs for her fourth match in double-figures.

Madison College (9-4) travels to Springfield, Illinois, for the Lincoln Land Tournament on Friday and Saturday, September 25-26. They will open against Hawkeye Community College (10-8) at 1:00 p.m. and Lewis & Clark Community College (12-9) at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, marking the first meetings ever with the RedTails and Trailblazers. Saturday's slate begins at 11:00 a.m. against Rend Lake College (7-9), followed by a 3:00 p.m. match with Marian University-Plymouth (6-9). The WolfPack is 0-1 against the Warriors all-time, and 5-0 in head-to-head contests with the Chargers. The matches are streamed live via Hudl.
