Madison College Wolfpack

MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's soccer team won their season opener Friday night at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East with a 3-1 victory over Western Iowa Tech Community College. Three newcomers led the way with their first career goals, while freshman goalkeeper Arabella Penfold overcame a first half goal to secure her first collegiate victory. The match was the first all-time meeting between the two program, with the WolfPack claiming victory in their first game of the year for the first time since 2023.

Neither team was able to generate much offense in the first half until Western Iowa broke a 0-0 tie in the 38' with an unassisted goal against 

Five minutes later, second year midfielder Kylie Hellenbrand netted the equalizer with a perfect scoring strike from beyond the penalty area. The transfer from NCAA Division III UW-Platteville and Cross Plains, Wisconsin, native, attacked from the right side of the pitch and was able to loft a shot just under the crossbar for her first career goal.

Early in the second half, the WolfPack took control of the match with back-to-back goals in the 47', and both were assisted by freshman forward Maddie Ludwig. Ludwig, a native of Washburn, Wisconsin, used a corner kick to place the ball in front of the net, where first year midfielder Fay den Hoed headed it in to mark her first career goal. 

Less than a minute later, Ludwig set up first year midfielder Chloe Adalin for a chip shot over the keeper for her first career goal, extending the WolfPack lead to 3-1.

Madison College held off the Comets over the rest of the second half to secure the win. Penfold, a native of Sutherlandshire, Australia, finished with eight saves. Western Iowa Tech (0-1-0) outshot the Pack by a 12-9 margin overall and a 9-6 differential in shots on goal as WITCC turned up the offensive pressure down two goals. Of Penfold's eight saves, six came in the second half.

Adalin and Hellebrand were tops for Madison College (1-0-0) with two total shots each, and Adalin posted two shots on goal.
