White delivers clutch hit in 12th inning, #6 WolfPack walk-off McHenry County

Home-and-home series continues Saturday in Illinois

MADISON, WISC. - Over the years, Madison College and McHenry County College have put together some epic games on the baseball field, and Tuesday's Region 4 clash can be added to the list. The WolfPack, who moved up to #6 in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll, rallied from a two-run deficit to force extra innings and eventually earn a 3-2 walk-off win in the 12th. Freshman Braylen White, who had been hitless in his previous five at bats, came through with a game-winning infield single as the Pack secured their second consecutive walk-off victory. Madison College leads the all-time series with the Scots by a 37-16-1 tally, with the two teams schedule to complete the home-and-home series on Saturday in Crystal Lake, Illinois.

McHenry County College (22-25) controlled most of the game, resulting in an early 1-0 lead, as well as a substantial 14-6 advantage in total hits by the end. The Scots had a runner on second in the top of the first, and lined a two-out double to center to score the game's first run against starter Axel Donaldson. The lead grew to 2-0 in the fifth inning after a double and single opened the frame. The WolfPack turned to the bullpen and brought sophomore Noah Musolf in; however, MCC was able to generate a successful sacrifice fly by the second batter the righthander faced.

Madison College had been held to just one hit through six innings, but were finally able to break through and score a run in the seventh. An error, a walk, and a single loaded the bases with no outs, and after a pop out and a strikeout, freshman Eason Hurd drew a two-out walk on four pitches to force in Sam Moses

An inning later, catcher Nate Novinska was hit by a pitch, and was able to race from first to home when sophomore outfielder Quinn Falish followed with a line drive double to left field. The Scots nearly threw out Novinska at home, but he was able to beat the throw with a head-first slide to tie the game at 2-2.

The game moved to extra innings and in the top of the 11th, McHenry County had a runner in scoring position when they single up the middle. Freshman centerfielder Jonah Roloff fielded the ball and fired a perfect ball to Novinska at home to cut down a potential go-ahead run. The WolfPack also failed to capitalize in the 11th as they had runners in scoring position with two outs; however, Roloff went down swinging and Ian Salvesen popped out to short.

In the 12th, relief pitcher Tavian Shramek came in and struck out the side, gaining momentum for the WolfPack as they came up to bat. Falish singled to right, and was eventually joined on the base paths by Moses and Beau Bloxdorf via walks. With the bases loaded and two out, White dug into the batters box having gone 0-5 with three strikeouts to that point. The Brown Deer, Wisconsin, native, grounded a 2-2 offering deep in the hole between third and short for a walk-off single as Falish crossed home for the winning run.

Falish, a native of De Pere, Wisconsin, had three of the team's six hits, resulting in a run batted in and a run scored. White had a hit and a RBI, while Novinska and Moses each drew a walk and scored a run.

The WolfPack used five arms in the marathon contest. Donaldson tossed the first four innings and allowed two earned runs on eight hits and two walks. He struck out three before Musolf took over for four scoreless innings, scattering four hits and also fanning three batters. Freshman Casey Wambach worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning with one K, and Landon Dessart, a second year from Union Grove, Wisconsin, kept the Scots at bay with two hits, a walk, and a strikeout in his two innings. Dessart also put together an impressive ten-pitch at bat that resulted in an inning-ending groundout in his first trip to the plate since the 2025 Arizona Spring Trip.
