Victory over Elgin pushes win streak to ten games for #8 WolfPack

Wolbert, Falish blast home runs, Donaldson strikes out six

MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College baseball team extended its current season-long win streak to ten games on Thursday with a 6-2 victory over Elgin Community College at Robin Roberts Field. Sophomores JJ Wolbert and Quinn Falish each blasted a home run in the win, while starter Axel Donaldson struck out six. The WolfPack is now 39-21 all-time against the Spartans.

Both teams struggled to produce clutch hits over the first four-and-a-half innings, with each stranding two runners during their half of the second inning. Elgin Community College (10-18) again left two runners aboard in the fourth before Madison College took a 1-0 lead with back-to-back extra base hits. Catcher Nate Novinska led off with a triple to right, and first baseman Sam Moses followed with double on a pop fly to shallow left field to score Novinska.

Reliever Camden Broske entered for the WolfPack, and the Spartans were able to tie the game in the top of the fifth with a two-out, run-scoring single. The tie didn't last long, as sophomore JJ Wolbert roped his first collegiate home run with a solo blast to right field.

After the home run put the home team ahead 2-1, Madison College added to its lead in the sixth. Moses opened the frame with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly from Quinn Falish

The Spartans closed the gap back to a single run in the top of the seventh as they loaded the bases on a walk and two singles, then used a ground out to third baseman Ian Salvesen.

Novinska provided some breathing room in the top of the seventh, driving a double to the wall in the left field corner to score Wolbert and Salvesen. In the eighth, Falish led off with a solo homer to left for his second home run of the season and second in the last three games played as the score reached its final margin.

Donaldson pitched four scoreless innings to start as the sophomore from De Pere, Wisconsin, scattered two hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out six batters before fellow second year Camden Broske (1-0) entered in the fifth and earned his first win since May 2024. He allowed one earned run on three hits and struck out one over two innings. Tavian also tossed a couple of innings out of the bullpen, giving up a run on two hits and a walk with one K. Aaron Ploszay and Landon Dessart combined to work a perfect ninth inning to seal the win.

Novinska set a season-high with three base hits, two of which went for extra bases, resulting in two runs batted in and another run scored. Moses followed in the order with two hits, a run, and a RBI.

Falish and Wolbert both had a home run and drew a walk, with the former driving in two runs and scoring one, and the latter scoring twice with one RBI.
