MADISON, WISC. - Wet conditions at the Bryant & Stratton College home softball field forced Friday's Region 4 doubleheader with Madison College to
Robert D. Goodman Softball Field; however, the final results belonged to the Bobcats. The WolfPack lost 5-0 in the opener and 12-1 in five innings in the finally and are now 1-4-1 at home this season. The losses narrowed the all-time series to an 11-9 lead in favor of the Pack, who have lost nine of the last 12 meetings with BSC.
Game #1: Bryant & Stratton College 5, Madison College 0
The Bobcats got the scoring started in the first inning with a sacrifice fly. An RBI single in the third inning against starter
Lauryn Etienne bumped the score up to 2-0 as the Bobcats began a string of four straight innings with a run scored. They added a third run in the fourth with a productive ground out, and an error and a single in the fifth pushed the differential to 4-0. A walk and another error in the sixth resulted in the final BSC run scored to make it 5-0.
It was a game of missed opportunities for the WolfPack, who produced just four hits and left seven runners on base. Freshman
Cassie Coffey had two of the hits, including a triple, while
Cathryn Zegadlo added one and
Shelby Brooks registered another.
Etienne (6-2) was hit for just one earned run in her seven innings. She allowed four hits and walked two, while also striking out seven.Â
Game #1: Bryant & Stratton College 12, Madison College 1 (5 innings)
The second game was also not kind to the WolfPack, even though Madison College got on the scoreboard first. Playing as the visiting team, freshman shortstop
Aubrey Juga led off the top of the second with a bloop single to center, and advanced to second with a sacrifice by
Haleigh Benisch. Second year catcher
Macie Studzinski followed with a double to the left field wall to score Juga for a 1-0 lead.
Bryant & Stratton College (23-8) responded in a big way by piling on nine runs in the bottom half of the frame. The inning began with an error and was followed by six consecutive singles as the Bobcats went ahead 6-1 before the WolfPack was able to record an out. Two more errors added another run and extended the inning, which saw another run-scoring single before a groundout to first ended it.
The Bobcats reached a 10-1 lead in the third and made it 12-1 with a two-RBI double with two outs in the fourth to reach the run-ruled decision.
Starter
Sophie Golembiewski (2-4) pitched 1.2 innings and gave up four earned runs of the nine runs scored, with eight hits and two walks. She recorded one strikeouts, as did fellow freshamn
Gretta Lewis in relief. Lewis was tagged for three runs on four hits and a walk in her 2.1 innings in the circle.
Outfielder
Cassie Coffey, a native of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, once again delivered multiple hits with a 2 for 3 effort to lead the WolfPack offense on its way to six hits in the game. Coffey boasts an eight game hitting streak and is batting .567 during that stretch. Additionally, Coffey has multiple hits in 11 of the last 13 games played in.
Juga, a Kenosha, Wisconsin, native, had a hit and a run scored, while Studzinski, a product of Waupaca, Wisconsin, was 1 for 2 with a run batted in.
Cathryn Zegadlo and Benisch had the other two base hits for Madison College.
