Chandler-Gilbert rallies past #10 WolfPack in high-scoring contest

Madison College posts season-high for hits in penultimate game of spring trip

CHANDLER, ARIZ. - The Madison College baseball team was unable to hang on to a three-run lead Thursday and suffered a 15-10 loss at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. The #10-ranked WolfPack registered a season-high 17 hits; however, they amassed 16 runners left on base and allowed the most hits by an opponent in a game this season. The loss ends an eight game win streak against the Coyotes, with the Pack still leading the all-time series by a 9-3 count.

Madison College took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a two-out single by Ian Salvesen. The third hit of the inning for the WolfPack drove in Beau Bloxdorf.

Salvesen struck again in the third as a first year third baseman lined a double to center to score Sam Moses for a 2-0 differential.

Chandler-Gilbert Community College (18-18) racked up five runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Coyotes used four singles and three walks to assume the three-run advantage.

Madison College evened the score in the fifth. With two runners on, freshman Jonah Roloff grounded a single down the first base line, allowing Moses and Eason Hurd to race in and score. Two batters later, designated hitter Paul Nuetzel looped a base hit to shallow right field to drive in Roloff and tie the game at 5-5.

After CGCC doubled in a run for a 6-5 advantage, the WolfPack racked up four runs to take a 9-6 lead in the sixth inning. Madison loaded the bases with singles by Bloxdorf and Nate Novinska, followed by a walk of Hurd. Salvesen was then hit by a pitch to force in a run and tie the game at 6-6. Back-to-back singles from right fielder Quinn Falish and Nuetzel each produced a run before another hit batter forced in the final tally. Unfortunately, the Pack left the bases loaded when Bloxdorf was called out on strikes.

The Coyotes come-from-behind effort started with a pair of solo home runs in the sixth inning to get within a run. They took the lead for good in the seventh with five more runs, including a three-run homer. After Novinska singled home Falish for a 13-10 differential in the eighth, CGCC popped yet another two-run home run in the eighth to complete the scoring.

Falish registered a season-high for hits as he finished 4 for 6, which yielded a run batted in and a run scored. Bloxdorf had three hits and score two runs, while Novinska, Salvesen, and Nuetzel each had two hits. Salvesen drove in three runs and scored another, while Nuetzel drove in two runs and Novinska had one RBI and a run.

Moses and Hurd both finished with a hit and two walks, and each crossed home twice.

The WolfPack went through five arms in the game. Starter Landon Dessart threw a two-hit shutout over his two innings, which included a walk. Camden Broske was then tagged for five runs on four hits and three walks in two innings. Freshman Charlie Slawinskiworked an inning and recorded a strikeout, while also allowing a run and two hits. Adison Tevz (1-2) took the loss after giving up five earned run on eight hits in 1.2 innings. Tevz did fan two before Braycen Burg took over for the final 1.1 innings. Burg surrendered four runs on three hits and a walk with strikeout.
