ROCKFORD, ILL. - In just her third year, head women's basketball coach
Angel Whetstone has taken Madison College from one win total to one win away from the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. Whetstone and the #2-seeded WolfPack rolled to an 86-66 semifinal win over #7-seeded Oakton College in the
Region 4 Division II District B Tournament on Saturday. Freshman
Serinity Metcalfe produced her fourth game with 30 or more points to lead the WolfPack to their first Region 4 championship game appearance in six years and first since moving up to Division II.
Trailing by a bucket early, Madison College rattled off a 9-0 run to pull ahead 13-6; however, Oakton College (23-9) responded with a 10-3 surge to tie the game at 16-16. The WolfPack answered back, using a driving Metcalfe layup to ignite another run to score the final 11 points of the quarter. The scoring burst continued into the second quarter as a
Jamera Green floater made it 13 straight points and a 29-16 advantage. The differential hovered around double digits for most of the second quarter, which was the Pack begin to hit from three-point territory. Freshman
Ava Landrum buried two from beyond the arc, while sophomore
Maia Ellis hit another as they extended the lead to 50-35 before the Owls recorded to late buckets for a 50-39 score at halftime.
The third quarter was dominated by the WolfPack defense, holding Oakton to just four points. The quarter featured two separate 9-0 runs for Madison College, the first of which provided the game's first 20-point lead at 59-39 and the second pushed the advantage to 68-41 before heading to the fourth quarter up 25. The Owls made one last attempt at a comeback with a quick seven consecutive points to start the final ten minutes, pulling to within 18. A transition layup by Metcalfe ended the run and regained a 20-point cushion that would peak at 81-54 with on a
Maddi DeSmet basket with four minutes remaining.
Metcalfe, a 5'7" guard from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was an efficient 12 of 19 from the floor with one 3-pointer and a 6 for 9 effort at the free throw line en route to 31 points. Averaging 20.2 points per game on the season, she has scored 56 points over two games in the region tournament. Metcalfe also produced her third game in 2025-26 with seven steals and led the team with five assists.
DeSmet was the only other double-digit scorer for Madison College, putting up 15 points, to go along with six rebounds, two assists, and a steal. The freshman from Belleville, Wisconsin, was 6 for 11 overall and made 3 of 4 free throws.
All eight WolfPack players scored in the game, with
Dani Latz and
Ava Landrum posting nine points each. Landrum hit three of the team's seven 3-pointers. Ellis led the team with seven rebounds, while also coming through with six points and four assists.
Madison College shot 54% (34-62) overall for the team's third-best shooting percentage in game this season and tied their best three-point shooting effort at 53% (7-13). The WolfPack was 16 for 19 (84%) at the stripe.
Oakton College still leads the all-time series by a 4-3 count.

72-65 in Madison on February 17, extending their head-to-head winning streak to 16 games and pushing their lead in the all-time series to 32-18. The two programs have played four times prior in the postseason - three of which with the region title on the line - and RVC has won three of the four. Madison College downed the Golden Eagles in the 2015-16 final and also won a Region 4 crown in 2009-10. They last played for a championship in 2019-20 and lost the Rock Valley College.
