MADISON, WISC. - The 2025-26 Madison College women's basketball team secured the program's first postseason victory in six years after overcoming a slow start to rally past McHenry County College with an 83-49 decision in Wednesday's
Region 4 Division II District B Tournament Quarterfinal inside
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. The #2-seeded WolfPack dominated the second quarter - and the paint - to earn their second win over the #15-seeded Scots this season, using a 52-20 differential in interior scoring to rally from an early deficit. McHenry County still leads the all-time series by a 7-4, while the Pack has earned two wins by an average margin of victory of 40.0 points. This was the first postseason meeting between the two programs.
Madison College held a 9-7 lead midway through the first quarter after a
Jamera Green three-pointer when McHenry County College (8-23) engineered a 12-2 run before
Maddi DeSmet converted a
Maia Ellis pass for a layup to end the quarter down 19-13. After a tough shooting first ten minutes, the WolfPack turned their focus to the paint in the second quarter with consistent post ups by DeSmet, along with attacks to the rim with the dribble. Madison opened with an 8-0 surge to regain the lead as DeSmet racked up six early points.
Chloey Bynum drained a three-pointer a minute later to kickstart a 9-0 burst that gave the home team the lead for good.
Holding a 34-27 lead at halftime, Madison College kept their foot on the gas in the second half, outscoring the Scots 49-22. The WolfPack generated a run of 8-0 halfway through the third quarter as the differential eventual built to 21 before a pair of free throws by MCC.
Serinity Metcalfe made sure this game remained in the WolfPack control with an impressive 14 points in the fourth quarter, which included additional scoring surges of 12 and eight points.
Metcalfe led all scorers with 25 points for her 13th game game with 20 or more points this season. The former Shorewood HS athlete was 12 for 20 overall with one 3-pointer. She also led the team with five assists and three steals, while also matching two-others with a team-best seven rebounds.
DeSmet, a native of Belleville, Wisconsin, was 6 for 13 from the floor and 3 of 4 at the free throw line, to go along with seven boards, one assist, and one blocked shot.
Dani Latz and Bynum each contributed 11 points in the win. Latz was 5 for 10 with a free throw, secured seven rebounds, blocked three shots, collected two steals, and dished out one assist. Bynum sank three of her four buckets from beyond the arc, and had two rebounds, two steals, and an assist.
Madison finished the game shooting 45% (35-77) from the field, 25% (7-28) from three-point range, and 66% (6-9) at the stripe. In addition to the 32-point advantage in the lane, the Pack took advantage of 31 Scots miscues to earn a 27-12 lead in points off turnovers, while also boasting a 16-9 advantage in second chance points and a 20-0 differential in bench scoring.

Madison College (22-4) will play in the Region 4 Tournament semifinals for the first time since moving to Division II and will take on #7-seed Oakton College (23-8) on Saturday, February 25. The Owls lead the all-time series by a 4-2 tally and have won three recent meetings in the past three years against the WolfPack.
