#18 WolfPack loses to #5 Milwaukee Tech for third loss in four games

Stormers post most points against Madison College in six years

MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College men's basketball team is 1-4 this season in matchup against ranked teams after losing a 119-80 game to Region 4 and in-state rival Milwaukee Area Technical College on Tuesday inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. Reserves Noah Compan and Cam Williams led the #18-ranked WolfPack in scoring, while the defense allowed the #5-ranked Stormers to score the most points in a game against the Pack since the 2019-20 season. Milwaukee Tech has won 12 straight in the head-to-head series, which they now lead by a 68-66 count.

Milwaukee Area Technical College (23-3) scored the first ten points of the game, including a pair of three-pointers as the Stormers eventually made 13 from beyond the arc to tie for the most by an opponent this season. George Whaley IV got the WolfPack on the board; however, MATC led 16-2 before Braylen Blue registered the team's second field goal with a three-pointer. Williams made an immediate impact with five quick points off the bench to help narrow the gap to nine points at 21-12. The visitors responded with seven consecutive points and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the half. The differential peaked at 44-24 until Madison College ended the half with a 16-9 surge to make it 53-40. 

The Stormers outscored Madison by a 66-40 tally in the second half, which saw the Pack score one field goal on a Carter Sullivan three-pointer over the first five-plus minutes. Milwaukee Tech led by 26 when Carson McCormick knocked down a triple; however, Madison College was never able to generate a big run and saw their deficit grow to as much as 41 late in the game.

Compan, a second year forward from La Crosse, Wisconsin, posted a career-high 25 points as he converted 11 of 14 shots, including a three-pointer, and was 5 for 7 at the free throw line. He now owns seven games of ten or more points this season. Compan also had six rebounds and one blocked shot.

Williams, a native of Verona, Wisconsin, score 13 for his 15 points in the first half as he was 6 for 13 overall, 2 for 4 from deep, and 1 for 3 at the stripe. He also added two boards and two assists. 

McCormick was the only other player to score in double-figures with 11 points, to go along with a team-leading three assists. Sullivan had six points and a team-best eight rebounds.

Madison College shot 38% (29-76) overall, 42% (11-26) from long range, and 58% (11-19) at the free throw line. 

The game was part of a Black History Month celebration at Madison College, which included a halftime ceremony awarding former player and Class of 1998 Hall of Fame inductee Clifton Davis the Distinguished WolfPack Alumni Impact Award. The celebration also included a dance through the decades by the Sun Prairie Central Heights Middle School Husky Hearts dance team.

Madison College (17-5) will play back-to-back Region 4 road games to end the week, starting with a make-up game on Friday, February 13 against Illinois Valley Community College (8-16). The WolfPack and Eagles have split their only two prior meetings. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. in Oglesby, Illinois, and can be streamed live via Hudl. Madison College will have a quick turnaround as they travel to play in-state foe Blackhawk Technical College (0-22) on Saturday, February 14. The Pack defeated the Talons by a 104-74 final on January 10 and is 17-2 all-time against BTC, with wins in all three meetings since they reinstated their athletics program. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. in Janesville, Wisconsin, and can also be streamed live via Hudl.
