Win streak hits four, #11 WolfPack rolls past Blackhawk Tech

Madison College reaches 100 points for seventh time this season

MADISON, WISC. - For the fourth time in the last six games and the seventh time this season, the Madison College men's basketball team reached the century mark in a game as they scored a 104-74 victory over Region 4 and in-state foe Blackhawk Technical College on Saturday inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. Second year guard George Whaley IV led five scorers in double-figures as the WolfPack, ranked #11 in the NJCAA Division II Poll, improved their win streak to four straight. The victory also improved the Pack's lead in the all-time series with the Talons to 17-2

With the game knotted at 10-10 just over four minutes in, Whaley converted a layup to ignite a quick 10-0 run that included back-to-back three-pointers from freshmen Carter Sullivan and Isaiah Robinson. Blackhawk Technical College (0-16) didn't fold and kept the differential inside of ten points for most of the rest of the first half, which ended with a 38-33 lead for the WolfPack. 

Madison College went right to work in the second half, using some increased defensive pressure to generate a 17-4 surge over the first five minutes and capping it with a Whaley and-1. A Carson McCormick triple midway through the half started a 9-0 burst as the advantage pushed past 20 points to 74-50. The WolfPack racked up an impressive 66 points in the second half. 



Whaley finished with a game-high 24 points - 16 of which came in the second half - as he knocked down 11 of 15 shots from the field with one 3-pointer and one free throw. The Williamsport, Pennsylvania, native boasts three games this season with 20 or more points. He also added three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Sophomore transfer Noah Compan came off the bench to post 12 points, marking his four performance with double-digit points. The native of La Crosse, Wisconsin, was 4 for 5, including a make on his only attempt from beyond the arc, and sank 3 of 4 free throws. The 6'6" forward also led the team with five rebounds.

McCormick, Sullivan, and Jackson Bertagnoli rounded out the double-digit scoring with ten points each. McCormick made two of his three buckets from long range and had two free throws, as well as four assists. Sullivan matched Compan with five boards and was 4 for 7 overall with two 3-pointers. And Bertagnoli went 5 for 8 and led the team with three steals. Second year guard Braylen Blue led the team with five assists, and added eight points and three rebounds. The former Madison Memorial HS athlete was 2 for 2 at the free throw line and currently leads the nation in free throw percentage at 95.7%.



Madison College shot better than 50% for the ninth time this season as they finished 42 of 73 (57%) overall, 11 of 21 (52%) from three-point territory, and 9 for 17 (53%) at the stripe. The WolfPack took advantage of committing 13 fewer turnovers to generate a 28-3 lead in points off turnovers.

The teams are scheduled to play against on February 14 in Janesville, Wisconsin.
