JOLIET, ILL. - Saturday's Region 4 women's soccer clash between Madison College and Joliet Junior College featured very little offense and resulted in a 1-1 draw. For the second consecutive match, freshman
Roos Zwolschen tallied the WolfPack's only goal, hitting the equalizer in the first half of a match that featured just ten combined shots on goal. The WolfPack are now 13-4-4 all-time against the Wolves, who are ranked #9 in the NJCAA Division III Poll.
Joliet Junior College (10-1-3) struck first with a 15' goal off a corner kick. The corner was sent into the heart of the goalie box and kicked in by a JJC player as several bodies came flying in the direction of first year goalkeeper
Arabella Penfold. The goal ended a run of two consecutive shutouts and 283 straight scoreless minutes for WolfPack 'keepers.
It remained a one-goal deficit until the 39' when Madison College netted the tying goal, which also came following a corner kick. Freshman forward
Maddie Ludwig sent the initial corner into play, only to have it deflected back out to her. After controlling it, she lofted another kick back towards the near post, where the 5'10" Zwolschen was able to head it in. The midfielder/forward from IJsselmuiden, Netherlands, boasts eight goals on the year and has scored in back-to-back matches for the second time this fall. The assist for Ludwig is her team-leading ninth and extends her streak of consecutive matches with a helper to three.
Penfold came through with two more saves before the half ended, keeping it tied at 1-1. Both teams tightened up in the second half, limiting the WolfPack to a Ludwig shot in the 62' and another by sophomore
Amalia Molgard in the 86'. Penfold came through with saves in the 67' and 90' en route to five saves total to preserve the draw.
For the match, Joliet Junior College owned a narrow 7-5 edge in total shots and a 6-4 lead in shots on goal, while the WolfPack earned seven corner kicks to two for the Wolves.
